Christopher's Story

Hello to my Old Friends and Hang Out Crew: Here is a quick summary on what has happened since I left Melbourne in October 1971. I also listed a couple of regrets too. Even though I didn't go to school much and quit so I could join the Army, I don't have too many regrets for doing what I did. One regret is that I was not very socialable in school. What does a kid know? I spent more time skipping the classes I hated than getting an education. But that is OK. I went to the classes I wanted to. I got my education another way and I have the paperwork to prove it. And I learned what I wanted to learn not what the school system thought I should learn. Even today, I feel school systems are letting our children down by not teaching what our kids need to know. They teach what they are required to know so they can pass state tests. My main regret is that I didn't stay in contact with my friends that I should have stayed in contact with. A few friends I grew up with are best forgotten. One friend that I found went down the wrong road. I hope things turned around for them. There is only so much one can do when on leave for 30 days. For the last 37 years I have been doing things I have enjoyed very much. I even got a job that I enjoy after retiring from the Army. How many people can say they have job they enjoy? I have been to many places in the world and the US. I have done many things some can only dream about. I have met famous people and have flown them to places that I can not state (classified). I got to shoot guns and howitzers, drive tanks and trucks, and then fly helicopters. I enjoyed saving lives through Medivac Missions, Flew VIPs, and even trained new pilots at the Army Flight School. It was a sad day when I retired. I knew what I was leaving behind, but I knew I had to get out before I was too old to find another job. They say they don't discriminate because of age, but I know different. Even at 38 it took two years to find my first job in the civilian work force. Got a job in New Orleans. Wild place but it smells like ...Expand for more
a men's room. I enjoyed very much working at the Airport there. Miss the people I left behind. I had to leave because you can't raise kids and put daughters though college on 9.03 per hour. I could only do so much over time. The body needed to rest. Then I came to Austin Texas. Great decision. A very nice Town. Now it is a small City. Almost 1 million people here now. Great weather for motorcycling. I have my Harley Electra-Glide Ultra Classic, my big 50 B'day present. Working for the City at the airport so I am still in Aviation. Lots of stuff to do here and plan to do a lot more of it when I retire again in 2013. Yep that is right. Four and a half more years if the economy is doing better. If it isn't, well I guess I will have to keep working until whenever. I just hope it isn't forever. As for the Classmates profile, I do more stuff than what they have listed. For example cycling is my motorcycling, I love doing yard work around my house because I love being outside. My sun tan proves it. One hundred degree days doesn't bother me. My room is the garage because I am always tinkering with something. I do most of my own repairs on the house. I just cut off 15 inches of hair. Now I have my military cut back. Long story about the hair. Growing up I never had long hair like some of the folks did in school. This was a once in a life time thing. I sent the hair to Locks of Love so some kids could have a hairpiece when they go through Chemo Therapy. My favorite hobby is Astronomy. My significant other says I picked the wrong hobby because I can't stay up past 1030, LOL. Just wait until I am retired again. And then lets see who can stay up the longest. As for learning about the universe, Wow! It is amazing stuff. It makes you really think about how lucky we are to be who we are and where we are. Well, that is about it. I hope everyone who read this enjoyed it. I look forward to hearing from anyone who drops me an email. I don't come to Classmates often, but now that I am a paying customer I might just come more often. Take Care.
