Christopher's Story
Life
My name is Christopher Edward Perryman
I am called Chris. I was born in Halifax,
Nova Scotia, A province in Canada to an
American father and a British Mother. I am an
American born abroad. Growing up wasnÂt what
you would consider normal. My fathers work
required us to move;;; a lot. and to far away
places. By the time I was 10 I had lived in
four countries and as many states here in
America. By the time I was sixteen it had
progressed to 13 states. I moved to New
Jersey in 1971 and have been here ever since.
I graduated from Scotch Plains High
School in 1974. I then attended vocational
school for electrical studies for 4 years at
night and worked all the while. In 1978 I
apprenticed as an electrician until 1983. I
earned my electrical contractors license in
1983. In February of 1984 I took a position
with the Port Authority Of Ny & NJ as a
Journeyman Electrician. Along this path I
worked both in NJ and NY,working with
voltages as high as 36,000 volts. I managed
to always have fun in the process. I have
always set high standards for the work that I
have done. My greatest achievement at work
was lighting the two towers of the George
Washington Bridge, I challenged one of...Expand for more
my
greatest fears there, I was afraid of
heights. By the time the job was completed in
2000 I was walking open steel 600 feet off
the ground without nets. and it was still
fun. I am now an electrical supervisor at the
Lincoln tunnel. A completely new job for me
with new challenges and stresses. My
philosophy to work has always been ÂIf I am
not enjoying what I am doing, I shouldnÂt be
thereÂ. I enjoy what I do for a living.
My spare time is not really too spare, I
have 4 daughters and am married, I also have
3 dogs. My hobbies include Flying sport
kites, Music, anything to do with military
aviation, computers, and my family.
My wife is a teacher, she has been
trying to convince me to continue my
education for years. I resisted. Until I got
this most recent promotion. In order for me
to advance any further which is something I
always have done, I need a degree. So, here I
am. Attending Centenary College. Never too old to learn.
My Personal philosophy on life is simple.
Work hard, be honest and fair, and play like
you are a kid when you can.
Hopefully school can provide me with the
means for advancement in my career and help
me provide for my family.
