Christy's Story

Life **GO TO GANESHA, LORBEER AND GOLDEN SPRINGS PHOTO ALBUMS!!!** Moved to New York City in 1990 when I took a flight attendant position with American Airlines. (Hard to believe this is actually the job I always wanted!! - What was I thinking????) Transferred to Nashville in 1992. Got married in October 1993. Quit American the next month. Worked at a payroll company until I got pregnant, then I quit for good. I chose to transfer to Nashville because I wanted to be where I had family, but I didn't want to go back to California. My mom was from here and I have my aunts, uncles, cousins, and their children close by. I had my first daughter (Savannah) in June 1995, and second daughter (Leanne) in July 1997. I am now a full-time mom, which is really nice now that both girls are in school all day! My husband is a Network Consultant (internet stuff) with BellSouth Telecommunications (your version of Pac Bell) in Nashville, and a musician (NOT Country music thank you very much). I am still very good friends with Pam Gutchoen (Castro) and Kristie Carr (Garcia), and see them as often as possible. Tennessee is actually a very nice place to live and a GREAT place to raise children. (Except in July/August when it's so humid.) We have the Smokey Mountains 3 hours away, lakes and rivers all through the state (we live on a lake and really enjoy it), and we can get to 10 other states within 3 - 4 hours. We have professional sports (hockey, football, and basketball in Memphis), and great College teams as well. OH! And we don't have a state income tax!!! My husband and I have season tickets to the Tennessee Titans football team and LOVE going to all the home games and whatever away games we can make. I still spend about 5 weeks every July back in California at my parents house in San Clemente. That's when I get to visit with old friends. My brother Perry lives out here now and he is the best uncle ever! He had lived in Hawaii from 1993 - 2001, but it was very expensive. My brother Mike, (he went to Damien High School), lives in Glendale and is a writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He is really loving his job and Jay is extremely nice. Well, I've probably given you information overload, but I always wonder everything about everybody else, so........ Take care everyone! School Golden Springs Elementary My favorite teacher was hands down, Mrs. Bigoshin(sp), my 2nd grade teacher. She was so sweet and fun. My friends throughout my years there were: *Natasha Sonvico(last saw her in 9th grade at St. Lucy's) *Linda Livingston(email now) *Terrie Biedelman(email now) *Tracy Ralph (last saw in 4th grade) *Jennifer Schneyer(last saw her in 8th grade) *Cynthia Villareal(can't remember the last time I saw her. She was a HUGE Steve Martin fan!) *Debbie Pennington(Don't want to talk to her, she was cruel to several of us for years!) *Kristie Headley(last saw her in 6th grade) *Pam Gutchoen(still friends and see each other at least once a year and phone each other) *Daphne Hammer(last saw her in 12th grade) *Tracy Stell(last saw her in 12th grade) *Gena Gomez(last saw her in 12th grade) Boyfriends:*Robbie Bargeron*Dave Sherman My fondest memory from Golden Springs is from 5th grade in Mrs. Snyder's class. Several times she would let people bring records (yes, that's LP's not CD's) and we'd get to play them at the end of the day. Mike Stone always brought KISS, Van Halen, and Queen. It was my first taste of hardrock. Lorbeer Junior High(it wasn't called Middle School yet) My favorite teachers were Mr. Royce plastics class, Mr. Blacher Science, Mr. Folkins Geography, and Mr. "Blu" P.E. My fondest memories are getting hot cinnamon rolls and rectangle chocolate chip cookies before school started,(They cost $.10 and $.15 and were great!), and all the dances my friends and I attended. My worst memory was in 7th grade when 8th grader David Huntley caught himself on fire on accident in the Science Lab. My best friends were: *Pam Gutchoen(see above) *Gena Gomez(see above) *Debbie Scott(haven't seen her since 8th grade) *Kristie Carr(still visit with her and exchange emails, phone calls) Boyfriends:*Jim Fletcher*Freddy Acuna*Ronnie Mandzok*Mike Ruiz*Joey Black*Mark Hayes*Robert Gutierrez Ganesha High School What a scary reputation it had! It really wasn't that bad. My friends in Ganesha were: *Pam Gutchoen(see above) *Kri...Expand for more
stie Carr(see above) *Gena Gomez(until our fight) *Wendy Rittenburg(last saw her Feb. 1996) *Kristina Montesanti(last saw her at Pam's wedding in 1989) *Kristen Neet(last saw her in Feb. 1996) *Jeanna Esposito(last saw her when I graduated) *Rachel Myers (last saw her when I graduated) *Justin Esposito(last saw him when I graduated) *John Beasley(last saw him when I graduated) *Tim Crocker(last SAW him when I graduated, but we email each other now) Boyfriends I had: *Freddy Acuna*Bobby Bravo*John White(different school)*Al Souza(different school)*Rob Bargeron*Anthony Cardenas(after he graduated) I can't think of a fond memory. That doesn't mean I don't have one, but I can't come up with one. I don't know a worst memory either. My favorite teachers were: Mr. Spiteri Biology, Mr. Slater Art, and Mrs. Hunt English. My worst teacher was Mr. Tidwell English. A year or two after graduation, Kristie Carr and I attended The American Bartenders School just for fun. Never did anything with it, but it was cool knowing how to make so many drinks. In early 1988 I attended Pacific Travel School in Brea. It helped me learn the ins and outs of the travel industry and get a head start with airport and city codes. I attended so my resume for the airlines would look better. Workplace Started working at my dad's company, RYCO Mfg., immediately after graduation. It was truly a "family business"! In addition to the 14 other employees, my dad, my mom, my 2 brother's, and even our dog came to work there! I was the office manager there. Realized I had to get into customer service if I was ever going to get hired as a flight attendant. Did reservations/customer relations at MGM Grand Air and got to talk to and meet several celebrities. (Candice Bergen, Dana Carvey, Jon Lovitz, Anthony Quinn, Wilson Phillips, Roseanne Barr, Mary Tyler Moore, Miles Davis, Robert DeNiro, Michael Hutchins from INXS, Dom Delouise, Matt Dillon, etc...) This was a first class only airline and just flew from LAX to JFK in New York. Back in 1988 it cost $949 one way!!! I got to fly on it for free twice, it was a great experience. The drive from Rowland Heights (we moved there a few months after I graduated) to LAX twice a day proved to be too much. I got a job in reservations at the Sheraton at City of Industry. From that job I was finally hired by American Airlines to fulfill my dream of being a flight attendant. Had to live and train in Dallas, TX for 5 1/2 weeks then was told I would be living in New York City! Shared a 1 bedroom apartment with 4 other flight attendants. The rent in 1990 was $1325.00!!! Never cooked a meal the whole time I lived there and would take toilet paper off the plane because it was so expensive in NYC. My apartment was at 123 44th Street and we could see Times Square where the ball drops from our windows. The building was shown in Stephen King's mini series "The Stand". The last 6 months in NY, I lived in a studio apt. on 46th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. I had 1 roommate and the rent back in 1991 was $875.00! Also had the opportunity to see celebrities (Steve Martin, Meryl Streep, Brooke Shields, Randy Savage-Wrestler, Robin Zander from Cheap Trick, Walter Peyton, Crystal Bernard, Richard Simmons, Lisa Hartman, Pam Tillis, etc...) I finally got my transfer to Nashville in January 1992. I mentioned in my life profile that I wanted to be near family w/o moving back to California. Quit flying one month after I got married, Nov. 1993, because I didn't like being away from home any more. Got job as a sales assistant with Paychex, Inc. They run payroll for small businesses. Stayed there until I couldn't stand it anymore and I wasn't happy with the raise they gave me. Started at Mundaca Financial Corp. in Nov. 1994 in the accounting department, and found out a week after I started that I was pregnant! Went ahead and quit at that time since I was sick and we always planned for me to stay home with our children anyway. That is the last time I worked for a paycheck. Now I work for hugs and kisses and for the pride of seeing my daughters grow into well-behaved, intelligent, loving little girls. I don't have any plans to go back to work. I do work some freelance jobs designing web sites, doing dictation, and putting up ads for people on the internet who are selling their homes on their own. Won't get rich off of it, but it gives me some "mad" money.
