Chuck's Story

Moved to Baltimore halfway through my sophomore year at RFHRHS. My family moved to Cincinnati in my senior year, but I stayed behind to finish high school in Maryland. Went to Kenyon College in Ohio, did a year in New York City, but returned to Cincinnati to get married and then went for my MBA at Harvard. Got out and went into banking in NYC. Citibank moved me to Chicago. Left Citi for a small bank in Rhode Island in 1984 and have been in RI ever since - although with 4 different banks. Married to Holly, a retired school librarian. Three children - Chip, a major in the USAF stationed in Virginia (but in Qatar as I write this) Taylor, an assistant middle school principal outside Atlanta and Maggie, formerly a USAF Tech Sgt. but now a mother of two (soon to be 3), married to a SrMSgt in the USAF, living in New Mexico. 6 grandchildren, two with each child until Maggie has her third. Outside of work, I served on the local school board for 12 years,6 as chair. Two years as president of the town council. Ran for Congress in 2004 - rather quixotic effort in a very Democratic state. 14 years on the board of St. Mary's Home for Children, a shelter and social serv...Expand for more
ice agency dealing with abused children and their families. Now doing a lot of work with Harvard Community Partners, which does volunteer consulting for non-profits. Currently working on a project for a homeless shelter working with families in eastern Connecticut. My children have traveled extensively - as you might expect from their military service . My daughter was stationed in South Korea for a year and for three years in England, where her first daughter was born. My second son, Taylor, taught school in Bolivia for 3 years. I did visit England, but most of my visits were to South America while my wife went to visit England. I hiked into Machu Picchu via the Inca Trail, played golf at the southernmost golf course in the world, in Ushuaia, Argentina, visited the world's largest salt flats - Salar de Uyuni (spectacular), biked down the World's Most Dangerous Road in Bolivia, stayed on Isla del Sol in Lake Titicaca. All great experiences to share with my son. My older son, Chip, was stationed in Hawaii which provided a different experience - although I did skydive (tandem) over the north shore of Oahu. The more I travel the more I realize I will never see.
