Chuck Lantz:
CLASS OF 1962
Alameda High SchoolClass of 1962
Alameda, CA
Chuck's Story
Married to a Tarheel, and we just celebrated our 30th anniversary. Two kids; one of each. One living in New Orleans and one in Brazil. After going through all the names from the class of 62, I realized that I had forgotten how large our class was. I guess Alameda was too cheap to build a third high school. I finally gave-into the Classmates.com email hype and signed-up. Once they get your name they are relentless. But their yearbook reprints are worth the cost, and it is fun bumping into people I haven't seen for half a freaking century (!?)
I've managed to miss all but two or three reunions. The one I wish I had attended was the Big One; the fiftieth. I heard it was great. We still have the house I grew up in on Thompson Avenue, AKA Christmas Tree Lane, but we live in San Francisco. I've never strayed too far from home. Ten years in the Reno-Tahoe area, another dozen in Santa Monica, Venice, San Pedro and...Expand for more
all that. Large bodies of water are like magnets.
Something else I noticed while going through our yearbook (which I'll probably regret writing because it will seem so sexist, but since my work includes modeling photography and graphic art, I humbly request a bit of slack) is that the young women in the senior class photos from 1962 had a remarkable amount of sophistication and style, especially for that era. The years just before and just after shared a bit of that style, but 1962 appears to have been some sort of apex for a very natural and serene look. All us guys just looked like the usual high school mutts, but the young women had something special going on. Maybe it had something to do with Jackie Kennedy's influence, but that's just a wild guess.
