Chuck's Story

Life Currently living in Nine Mile Falls, WA (a small town northwest of Spokane)and working as a middle school teacher, coach, and athletic director. Loving damn-near every minute of it :) Also coach the district high school's fastpitch softball team. Married to Kara (also a teacher), so we do enjoy our summers. We have four kids (all hers from her previous marriage), but they all feel like they are my own and not just step-kids. They range in age from 13 to 8, with the only girl as the oldest, and the 8-year-olds being twins. Home life is quite busy, you could say! I'm sure many others of you could call yourselves the family chauffer as well! We like to spend our time traveling every other year to the old "stomping grounds" of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia to see old friends and mostly family. It's amazing how you learn to appreciate your family more and more as you age, and also live nearly 3000 miles away. I guess that's what one gets for having that adventurous spirit. Anyway, we also travel to Wyoming every other year (my mom and step-dad live there). In addition to traveling, we love to attend Seattle Mariners games and all our own kids' sporting events (they do the soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball thing). We also love to hang out boating and giving the love to our three dogs. If you're ever out this neck of the country, look us up! School Will try this again! Spent about an hour typing, and when I went to "update", the site was down for "maintenance". Anyway, lots of memories from two high schools (two years at each)! Biggest Crushes: Rochelle Thompson (George Fox and Northeast); Tricia Hannigan, Beth Riedell, and Tracy Dettrey (Northeast); Serene Jones, Pam Woods, Sherri Burt, Jody Troyer, Dorothy Capan, Stephanie Thoms, Sheryl Sabol and Karen Stauffer (Union City). Most Inspirational Teachers: Senor Weinczkowski and Mr. Iman (Union City), Senora Upshur (Northeast) Biggest High School Regret(s): 1- Not playing football (long story), but I know I could have played. Have a great memory of playing a pick-up game at a varsity club pig roast my senior year. On the opening kickoff, an opposing player (Chad Buell) received the ball and barrelled through our defense until he got to me. I put my head down into his thighs, wrapped him up, and promptly planted him onto the ground without much resistance. I just remember all the guys (who pretty much were football players) looking on in shock as Chad (who was the stud of the senior football class)went down. They all asked me why the heck I didn't play football. That was a cool feeling. I guess the thought of a week of two-a-day practices in high heat and humidity of mid-August Pennsylvania sun didn't appeal to me. 2- Not pursuing Jody Troyer 3- Even though baseball was always my biggest passion, I never did play it in college. I had some offers from small colleges in PA, NY, and OH, but I thought I was better...Expand for more
than I really was and opted to head out to the University of Wyoming instead. It was an extremely inexpensive school (only $6000/year my first two years for an out-of-stater); plus, it had a Division-I baseball team (long before Title IX). I tried walking on, but didn't make it. Consolation from it all: I was told I had a Division-I bat, contact-wise. Although I chose to go to Wyoming for school to get away from home and be on my own (and not just to go play baseball), I still regret not having that collegiate-level baseball experience. The only other consolation is that in the past twelve years I've played fastpitch softball and adult baseball with and against former college players of all levels, and I've done as well as most of them. So I know I could have played somewhere, and probably would have been a positive asset! Northeast High School Memories: Baseball, Coach Lentz, Coach Kolhafer, Coach Gore, Coach Barbour, all the old Havenwood Little League and George Fox buddies who played NHS baseball, Leo Kelm, Walt Gott, Billy Jahnigen (my best bud), Daon Johnson, Danny Dove, The Caines family, Drew Neisser episode, Doug Gardner and slurpees from 7-11, Jerry Marinelli, indoor track, 10th-grade English with Mrs. Poole, Danny Santoni, speech class with Mr. Rader, Mr. Pair, getting "cut" during my freshman year baseball but being "recalled" a month later and becoming a starter by the end of that same year, Joe McDonald's never-ending bantering with Coach Kolhafer, "Chuckie Cheese" Union City Memories: wrestling, the Canadohta Lake school bus group, football everyday after school in the fall (usually in the rain too), Danny Miller, Randy Miller, Pizza Hut after-hours, lots of SNOW, Chip Comstock, Mike Lesher, Merlin Rockwood, Coach Krause, Doug Myers ("I'm getting fumif---inggated"), Scott Bacon, Brian Woolstrum, Jacque Spear, Dan Webb, Steve Edwards, Janet Trebik, New Year's Eve '86, helping build the homecoming float in fall '86, computer class my senior year, Coach Senyo, Coach Margie, Joe Lasher (3rd), Mark Silka, Tammy Byerley, the senior class of '86 with Physics and Calculus, Mr. Zarger, Mr. McIntyre, Mr. Lasky, Mr. Thompson, the day I earned a varsity wrestling spot by pinning Doug Myers in a double chicken wing, Darryl Nunemaker, Kelly Thompson, PE football, drafting class Fall '85 (TESLA), Kyle Blakeslee, Mrs. Zackovitch's accounting and typing, Kim Zigler College University of Wyoming ('87-'91 & '92-'93) People and memories: 10th floor Macintyre Hall '87-'88 12th floor Macintyre Hall '88-'89 Tony Marquiss, the guineau pig, John Pfeifer, Brook Longdon, Paul Montoya, UW football and baskeball games, Necia Hoffman, Professor Hampe, Chris Mosier, Earl Sallee, Carl Jungck ("Here I am"), the flower pot, the Ouji board and tv, Fennis Dembo's high voice, Jungle Juice, Missy Nack, the Black Hills, Marty Sisson, Adam Grove, Andy Corbin, Jason Livingston, Jim Dickbernd, Randy Hite, Todd Moser, Troy Tooley, Wes Uncapher
