Cindy's Story
Dear friends and classmates,
I think this story will have to be done in increments - I can only sit for so long! :) Well, to all who read this, especially those I have not yet been back in touch with, hello, and please feel free to sign my guestbook and send me a message. The older I get, the more I realize that: 1) you can't have too many friends, and 2) bridges you once thought were burned forever may not be after all. A dear friend I recently reconnected with pointed out to me the other day that it's been 40 years since I (and my class) began high school. 40 YEARS...?!? That used to be a generic term that only very old people used, which meant "forever". Now, it's a fact. Wow.
Reader's Digest version of my life: 2 years at FJC (now I think it's JJC or JCC or FJCJ or something with Cs and Js in it), majored in piano, minored in voice. Then I had marriages which went sour but produced 5 beautiful kids who are now my best friends, aged 26 through 35. Those kids have produced 4 amazing grandchildren for me, ages 1 year to 15 years, and now one more on the way! :) I went back to school in KY, double majored in Medical Administration and Accounting in 1998, and have been working in medical administration ever since.
I have always dabbled in piano, taught off and on, played for different groups, etc, but never went the classical route as my teacher and my mom wanted me to do. I knew it would take more dedication than I was willing to give it, because I had always dreamed of marrying and having babies and being the Waltons, except ...Expand for more
not quite so poor. :) I got the babies, the marriages not-so-much, and the finances? Closer to the Waltons than I wanted to be. :)
I've lived in Virginia Beach, Bowling Green, KY, then back to Va Beach, then Vegas, California, and finally back to VA in an area of Norfolk called Willoughby Spit where I was for the past several years - a block off the Chesapeake Bay. Four of my five kids lived close by. It was like our own private beach - kind of like Jax Beach back in the day before any hi-rise motels were built. Very homey, a little community unto itself. Then earlier this year 3 of the kids and I all left VA - my oldest son came with me to Columbia, SC, and the other two moved to different areas in NC, for school and jobs. It is a new beginning for us all. God and time will determine what happens here. I think I am working my way back down to Florida - a piece of my heart is still there, though I haven't lived there since 1981.
I haven't made it to any of the class reunions yet, though I would like to. But I keep saying if I start going, I'll have to do three - 1975 (my own, where I had several dear friends), 1973 (when I was a sophomore, most of my friends were seniors), and 1977 (when I was a senior, most of my friends were sophomores). Go figure!
Anyway, that's me in a very small nutshell. As most of you can probably agree about your own lives, it seems that I have lived about 5 lifetimes so far, though the older we get, the faster it goes, right?! Ya'll take care, and let me hear from you! Love, love to all. God bless. <3
