Cindy's Story

Hi friends of CB EAST! Since I am aware of the reunion coming up, I thought it would be appropriate to at least create a profile for your enjoyment. Since high school, soo much has happened in my life. I could write a book that would make you laugh, cry and shreek! All in all, I have no regrets and I feel absolutely blessed to have what I do today. Although I am divorced (6 years now), I have 3 beautiful and bright children who I adore and live for. My oldest son is 10, my daughter is 7, and my youngest is 5. Their father has been in New Mexico for 3 years which has given us a chance to recover and have our own lives without drama. We like that. On March 3rd, we moved back to Michigan. I was living in Lakeland, FL. for a couple of years because my parents live near there. I was working at a christian university and I loved my job and the people and was hoping to stay and finish a Bachelor in Business...however, life has it's challenges for single parents and I had to make a tough but welcome choice to move back to Michigan. (Michigan is where my ex-husband grew up. I came here with him for the first time in 1996 and fell in live with this area.) Fortunately, I have many friends here who helped me get back, find housing, a job, furniture and a car. Now it's a month later and things are going smoothly. I hope to stay here for a few years until I'm ready for another adventure. As for work, I just started my job 3 weeks ago. I work for a property management company who owns many multifamily apartment buildings throughout the state of Michigan. They rent to low income and elderly tenants. My title is "Occupancy/Eligibility Specialist. I look over move in applications, calculate income, determine eligibilty based on Rural Dev. and Michigan Housing policies and handle recertifications, move outs, evictions and transmitting reports. It's way too much paper work and much detail. Right now I am overwhelmed because this is new to me, but I am learning fast and hope to follow through with more training and certification in the near ...Expand for more
future. I hope to see this as a housing mission and not just a paper pushing job. I do the detailed boring stuff that does not get recognition or thanks but is critical to keeping a lot of people from homelessness and/or other severe circumstances of poverty. I would love to go on a tangent about my wonderful kids...but I will spare you, this time.. but they are really cool, really smart, got their own style of clothes, talk, and character that often catches me in those "mom" moments where I can't believe I actually had kids and these wise guys are mine!!!! WOW!!! I'm sooo happy I did this, went through everything I did and keep on going. Some things you don't know about me: 1st: I do not do art work and I don't really like to draw. I prefer to cook and share it or tend the yard and garden to get all this creative and physical energy out. 2. I can't stand The Cure, I don't listen to Punk, out grew the hair deal years and years ago, ( I still like the Ramones, though...so do my kids-we rock out sometimes) 3: I am a really good mother and friend and have a very gentle, healthy life. 4: My eyes still ALWAYS pour with water when someone tells a GHOST story (it's not crying) 5: I love latin music and down home style mexican cooking and mexican dancing!!!! I learned to speak conversational spanish while in Michigan. What I want to do when I grow up: Community outreach. Fundraising, writing and public speaking. Missionary work in Mexico or locally. Hope to be a grandma some day and live to be 100 or so. Hope to not remarry so I can keep my independence and freedom. Well, gotta go...one last thing, Due to living and working in Michigan and raising children on my own, I will most likely not be at the reunion, even though I would like to go. Remember me, and hopefully we will meet again under diffferent circumstances. I would love to hear from old friends and know how you're doing. i hope to pay for the membership so I can read all the profiles and maybe connect with friends. Write to me if ya get a chance, I'd like that.
