"Clancy" Clarence's Story

Life Grew up in the Southwest. Joined the Marine Corps in 1978. Did tours in SE Asia, Lebanon, Grenada and Marine Barracks 8th and I, in Washington DC. After getting my third Purple Heart I joined the Navy in 1986. I was tired of getting shot and having everyone shoot at me everyplace I went. Talk about people with no sense of humor. Well my whole time in the Navy was with the Boats, aka Submarines or Submarine Support. Was on the Trident Boats USS Ohio SSBN 726, USS Florida SSBN 728, and the USS Pennsylvania SSBN 735. Was also on the TAG Ship USNS Vanguard out of Port Canaveral. Man, was that a blast. Was also on the Tender Simon Lake a short time until I got busted up again and sent back to the States to mend and Retire. Did my last tour in the Navy at TTF Bangor, Washington. No, not Bangor Maine. Bangor Washington State. After I retired I went to work back home at Los Alamos Natioal Lab for a while till I got accepted at the US Dept. of State. Now I'm an IMTS Radio/Communications Officer with them. That's hopefull...Expand for more

Went to everywhere in the world that they didn't want us there. Unfortunately they kept shooting at me every time I showed up some place in the Corps. Did tours in SouthEast Asia, Marine Barracks 8th and I, Lebanon and Grenada. After my third Purple Heart I joined the Navy in 1986. Got tired of getting shot. So from 86 to 99 I was on the Boats. Tours on the Ohio (Duh!), Pennsylvania and Florida. Sub Tender Simon Lake and TAG Ship USNS Vanguard. Spent my last couple years at TTF Bangor. What a blast, can't say it wasn't interesting. I hope that I made a difference to people. I gotta say though the best time was when we wired Skubic's chair up to a megger. It was great fun to torment him, sorry about that Skubic. The Ohio was a fantastic Boat, really. It was my pleasure to go to sea with each and every one of the guys onboard. Thanks to everyone of you.
