Clarinda's Story
I have been working with my Quinault people in the newspaper business. I majored into Public Relations, Communications and Mass Communications and graduate from CWU. Originally, In the beginning I was going to become a nurse when I attended courses at the U of W when I was 15 and 16 in the summer time. That is what my Gramma Vi wanted me to do. al busy with my son's busy high school schedule. However, my identity of being Native has blossomed over the years. I have become proud of being Indian. As I was attending high school I honestly was ashamed of it. I have come full circle and been healing from that negativity of self-hatred. I embrace my heritage fully today.
Currently, I am serving my Quinault people as a 6th Councilwoman on the Quinault Tribal Council. It's been a new door and it has also been a difficult position to be in. But I honestly believe I am doing the best I know how in regard to making decisions that will help our people. Also, I have a new baby in my life, he is my nephew's little baby boy. And they live with me. He's the cutest little boy, red blonde hair and blue eyes! We are blessed!
