Clark's Story
I am living in Streeterville east of Water Tower Place and north of the Museum of Comtemorary Art. I am in my sixth year serving as the McCormick Foundation's Journalism Program Director. My job focuses on managing an annual $6.5 million grant-making portfolio in quality content, audience engagement and press freedoms. This is an especially sweet gig given the current economic condition of the news business. Our newest project is the three-year, $6 million WHY NEWS MATTERS initiative, which takes a holistic approach to building news literacy throughout the Chicago area.
You may know the McCormick Foundaton because of the golf course, park, gardens and military museum at Cantigny Park, the family home of long-time Tribune publisher Robert R. McCormick. The $1.4 billion foundation also conducts grant-making in journalism, education, cultural, veterans, civic and community projects. We are no longer connected to the Tribune Co. and recently moved from Tribune Tower to swank offices ...Expand for more
on the 43rd floor at 205 N. Michigan Ave.
I also am the chairman of the Northwestern Integrative Medicine Advisory Council. In addition, I serve on the boards of the American Society of News Editors, Chicago Journalists Association Foundation and the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.
My oldest daughter (Heidi) has two children and lives in River North. My youngest (Natalie) attends Marquette. My partner (Elizabeth Weldon) moved to Chicago from London in 2009. She works for Russell Reynolds, an international executive search firm.
I finally gave up competitive softball, but remain an active tennis player and bicyclist. I am in the Chicago Softball Hall of Fame because of my many years playing with Mike Royko and Timmy Weigel on the Chicago Daily News, Billy Goat Tavern and Sun-Times powerhouse teams. I believe our own Irv Porter also was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his umpiring skills.
I look forward to catching up with you.
