Robert B.'s Story
Life
Yes, I'm one of "those" swimmers. Now living in Highlands Ranch, Colorado (south of Denver) with wife and son. The photo is of me at one of my favorite places, Rocky Mountain National Park - at around the 10,000 foot level - just above the tree line.
From K through 3rd grade, I went to that elementary school that was a half block from the ramp at Torrance Beach (+RAT). It was torn down years ago for those townhomes.
We then moved to RHE just a few yards from the PV City line at PV Drive North, so I spent 4th and 5th grade at Valmonte Elementary in the "tree section". Many friends went to Malaga Cove, but I went to Dapplegray by the reseviour at PV Drive North and PV Drive East. During this time I played Babe Ruth baseball at PV High and kept in touch with friends there.
Went to Rolling Hills High and played "C" Football in 9th grade, then swimming and water polo from then on. In 9th grade, I swam for the San Pedro YMCA which had many future Miraleste swimmers, but we also ran into PVHS swimmers such as the Rowe brothers (Stu & Chip), Alan Varner, and sometimes the PV coach, Doug Martin, and many of the Miraleste swimmers at the life guard festival at Avenue "I" in Redondo Beac...Expand for more

Went to UCLA on a swimming scholarship, was a 4 year NCAA All American in 5 different events. Also made the 1971 Pan American team in the 200 meter butterfly and was in the 1972 Olympic Trials in the 200 Fly and 400 meter Free...but didn't go fast enough to make it to Munich.
After college, I coached swimming and water polo at Miraleste and Rolling Hills for two years, then off to Pepperdine's MBA program.
Spent a number of years working for the Chart House restaurant group, and was in Chart House management at Baltimore, Maryland, Malibu, California, and finally at Westwood, Calfornia where I worked with Peter Becker of PV High.
Then spent 10 years in campus dining services at UCLA, and 9+ years in restaurant consulting. Currently in my 7th year with Sodexo doing facility master planning for colleges and universities across the country, but the majority on the East Coast lately.
It was great living on the "Hill" during those times, and that's why I check out both the PV and Miraleste classmate sites as well to see if there's any of the "old" gang listed.
Would enjoy getting a shout out now and then.
Best regards, Rob Clarke
