Claude's Story

Life After Graduating from RHS, I enlisted in the Navy. Spent four years in Washington, D.C. working with Naval Security (ONI). After discharge from Navy, I entered St. Mary's Seminary in St. Mary, Kentucky to complete some studies in LATIN and Philosophy. After two years, I then entered the Religious order of the Cistercians (Trapppists) at Holy Cross Abbey in Berryville, Virginia. I spent a year as a Novice and then left the Order and returned to Richmond. Worked a brief period at the U.S. Post Office and then left to go to Honolulu, Hawaii with a Doctor Friend and his Wife. We lived on the Island of Maui in Lahaina. My original plans were to enter Queens Hospital School of Nursing but at that time, enrollment was only once a year and had already commenced. I worked part time by picking pineapple for Pioneer Plantation; cutting sugar cane. I left Hawaii in 1960 and returned to the Mainland (Los Angeles) stopping to visit some family friends. I ended up by staying, and working for about five years in the Post Office again, and then left to work with an International Travel Agency....where I stayed for about 20 years. Then in 1984 I left the Travel Agency and returned to School and studied for a Degree in Nursing which I obtained. Worked 8 years in a Shelter for Homeless Men with AIDS that was established by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Left the Hospice about 9 years ago and have fully retired. Spend most of my time reading lots and lots of Mysteries, writing some short stories and spending too many hours on the Internet. Would love to hear from ANYONE from the Classes of 1948 - 1949 - 1950 - 1951. School Easthaven Avenue School....grade school. I even remember most of the teachers I had back then.
