Claudia's Story
November 2022 I'm 7 years retired from 'Library Land' now. My last position was the Assistant Director of the Santa Monica Public Library system--in charge of the budget, security, facilities, HR and Administration. Life was fun while working but it's even better now ;) Plenty of time to travel (when we were doing that), read, help out at St. Monica's, walk the LA neighborhoods and slow down. Who ever had time to work?
Stu and I have two children: our daughter and son-in-law live in Berkeley and I am a grandmother of one. Our son also lives in the Bay area and is the head swim coach for a private club.
We moved to Westwood near UCLA about five years ago. My mom was still living in our house on Moreland, fell and cracked her pelvis. I had to go back for two months in 2017 to take care of her. I could not have kept her at home if not for the fact that she lived in our ori...Expand for more
ginal Addison 1 story house with only 2 steps to get to the car. While she napped and could not get down to the basement, I spent the time cleaning it out of nearly 60 years' of stuff. Charay Palmer came up for a weekend to help. I can never thank her enough. Rose Neri and Bonnie Hoblit kept my spirits up--they live on Moreland too! Four months from the date we learned of her injury, I had my mom packed up and moved to senior living in Los Angeles. She is still living at the same place but now in assisted living and I see her about once a week. My brother John (AT '73) lives about 60 miles away in Carlsbad.
I missed our 50th reunion and apologize for not being there. I had reservations and Charay had already given me my marching orders. My daughter was 8 months pregnant and the family decided I should not chance traveling so I canceled at the last minute. Mea culpa.
