Clifford's Story
I was an "Air Force brat" born in part of Corona Ca that is now Norco. We moved several times during my chidhood before ending up back in Ca. One of our moves was overseas to Tipoli Libya('64-'67) where we lived off post for almost 3 years. Now THAT was pretty cool! Lots of skin and scuba diving in the Mediterrainian Sea. So, it was Ca to Washington DC to Texas to Libya and then back to California.Where in CA? Cupertino for a very short time, Orange for several years then to Cerritos. I enlisted in the Army in Cerritos in '73 and after training they sent me to Germany for a couple of years. While I was in Germany my folks moved back to within a couple miles from where I was born because Norco was a horse-keeping community. They were very big in horses. I rolled pretty crazy for a couple of years before I met and married my wife of 29 years, Winona Lantz. GTG More later.
(Later) After I got out of the Army I stayed at my Mom & Dads in Norco where they had bought a house across the street from where a cute 16 year old(Winona) lived. We became aquainted while horseback riding on the trails of Norco. Got hooked up, got serious, got married. We stayed in Norco for awhile then loaded up our 2 daughters in a van and took off looking for a new place to live. After drivin...Expand for more
g around for a month or so landed in Oklahoma. We stayed in Thunderbird State Park for a couple of months while we worked and tried to get it together. Well, it just wasn't working out so back to Norco we went. I started working in machine shops and eventually ended up working for Rockwell Int'l. Along the way we had 5 more children, a girl,1 boy then 3 more girls. I am proud to say that we had all these either at home or in an alternitive birth center, all natural, no drugs or pain killers! What a gal!! What a cool experience! Eventally I was laid off from Rockwell. I had started learning how to shoe horses so the day I got laid off I became a horseshoer! It became my trade for the next 20 years.
When our girls started becoming teens we decided to try to bring our kidas up in a different environment so we packed up and moved our 7 kids and 3 horses to Missouri. Winona had flown out with 1 kid on her hip and bought us a 120 year old 2 story farm house on 7 acres. I continued my horseshoeing and we had 1 more boy along the way for a total of 8 children. I also tok a few different jobs during slow times while we built up my shoeing business. After a few years we had a business that paid the bills and allowed us to have a very flexible schedule. GTG more later.
