Meldonna's Story
After leaving CHS I married, moved to South Carolina, moved to Brandon, FL, divorced, moved to Kodiak, Alaska, married, divorced, moved to Anchorage and then Cooper Landing, Alaska where I lived with my then young son in a beautiful little wood-stove heated one-room log cabin with an outhouse out back. We had to haul our own water and watch out for moose and bear before stepping out the door. Loved it! Returned to Kodiak then moved to Colorado, then Nebraska (yuck) and back to Colorado where I am now. Home will always be considered Alaska, though I live in Colorado. I think of Colorado as "base camp".
I've worked as a Chief Environmental Inspector (Hillsborough Bay, FL), owned and operated (marriage #2) a 45,000 acre cattle, horse and buffalo ranch. Hubby #2 and I built and operated a 19 room/restaurant/bar resort on the ranch catering to fisherman and hunters from all over the world. I divorced that- and became the Marketing Director for the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage. I wanted out of the city and moved to Cooper Landing, Alaska and worked for Princess Cruises as administrator for the Kenai Princess Lodge, later as the gift shop manager. Then I returned to Kodiak, became part of a primary education special ed team while simultaneously being a freelance writer and photographer.
THEN, I moved to Colorado, did varous junk tourism job...Expand for more
s here - Tour Cordinator, Vet Receptionist, Hotel Front Desk, even worked for really bad wages with the illegal aliens scrubbing hotel rooms - it was good for buffing up on spanish though. Moved again for a better job with Cabela's in Sidney, Nebraska (what a boring location!) as an Outdoor Adventure Travel Consultant, specializing in Western Canada and Alaska hunting/fishing trips. Fun job, great company to work for but I couldn't stand the mind numbing boring no-outdoors-activity flatland anymore and moved back here to Colorado. Now working for DHS. Yep, I'm a fed, cop-looking uniform and all. Who'd have ever thunk it?
I have two large dogs, a Great Pyranese, and a Chowbrador who are my constant hiking and camping buddies. I even take them to dog-friendly hotels when I travel.
I have a 23 yo son who has become an admirable self-sufficient man working in the internet industry. He and I enjoy a dinner out once in a while just to catch up. Sometimes we fly up to Alaska together to visit our various family members who live there. I will return to Alaska sometime - around retirement.
Hobbies are hiking, camping, kayaking, x/c, snowshoeing, basically anything outdoors. Currently I am learning to fence (foil). Also speak a little bit of very bad spanish - learning more now.
Looking forward to hearing from some of my old classmates.
