John's Story
Hello all you info seeking people. I will try to enlighten you with some more info. I started out in Aurora, Mo. (born in Monett) and went to school there until the third grade. My true love then was Valerie Hamby, which I still think about to this day. My mom and dad told me I couldnt tell anyone that we were moving to Cape Fair, Mo. so I didnt, and I still feel bad to this day that I didnt tell Valerie. We moved anyway, and I started school in Galena, Mo. No football, and I was pretty upset about that for a while. Life went on, nothing really exciting that I can think of... Nothing of significance anyway. I graduated in 1988 at Galena High School, went into the military and married Leslie Conner. I was part of the screaming eagles, 101 airborne div. went to the Gulf War. Came back in one peice but really never the same. We had two kids one girl, Erica,(named after my very first girlfriend) and Joseph my son. Ended up devorcing after 6 years. This was a very hard time for me, but I managed to live thru it. I became a cop after the military, and a firefighter. Being a cop in a small town wasnt great so after 5 years quit that. I was still in the National guard for a little while, until around 92, then got out all together. I met another woman a little while later and married her. Melissa Thorson. 15 years. She had two children. Recently going thru a devorce from her. During this time after 9-11, I decided I needed to go back in the military and finish the fight we started back in 91. I got back in to the National Gaurd and went back to Iraq. I became a crew member on a UH60 Blackhawk and a door gunner, and since I was in the medical field at home worked in the ER on the Balad airbase hospital. I was able to do things in that ER that I will never have the chance to do anywhere else. I came back to the states messed up some. I have some back and neck issues, and some joint issues believed to have come from the 1st gulf war. And had surgery on my shoulder. I also ended up with PTSD, and struggle with it often enough. I believe this is my reason for both devorces. I now have 60% disability with the VA, and am working as an Army Civilian for the Army Corp of Engineers. If you are in any of the parks around Table Rock in the summer, look for me. I also am working as a Volunteer Firefighter. I am the Captain on Station 5 in Cape Fair. I have met another little darling, and doing my best to try and figure out what happiness is again. So there you have it.. a really quick overview of my life.
