Corey's Story
School
I was pretty much a nerd, but had fun. At Abington, I joined about half the clubs, wrote for the paper, helped out at the Alternative Coffee House, and generally tended to hang around after school.
I was an exchange student in Berlin, Germany my junior year. My parents moved to Los Angeles the following Summer, so I went to school in L.A. my senior year. My main social group that year was the Westchester Baptist Church, but I'm no longer religious.
College
UCSB was a great school, all sorts of things going on. I was technically a Math major in the College of Creative Studies, but really spent most of my time working with the computer systems. I ended up becoming a programmer.
Socially, my main activity was Contra Dancing. I also did some ballroom dancing, but was bad at it. I played a little intramural volleyball (also badly), and played some board and card games. I took off my junior year to work in Canada, then played a lot of bridge my senior year.
I'd love to hear...Expand for more
from any of my college friends and acquaintances -- It's been too long! Karen, Maureen, Fred, Jana, Joseph, everyone else? If you see this, drop me a note. :-)
Workplace
I did a mixture of systems and applications programming for quite a few years, including a couple of desktop publishing systems. In 1988 I got into computer game development, and have been doing that since. It's fun and rewarding sometimes, but can also be really stressful and require a lot of overtime.
My big games so far have been Sierra On-Line's Quest for Glory series and Castle of Dr. Brain, Shannara for Legend Entertainment, and a couple of card games. I'm working on another of those currently.
My most fulfilling project was Castle of Dr. Brain, because I was able to do most of the design and didn't have to spend all my time programming. Dr. Brain and Quest for Glory were very popular and got great reviews.
I'd like to spend more time writing and less time coding, but there's more demand for programmers.
