More about Coleen:"Stage 3a breast cancer survivor. Celebrating life.
On November 27th, 2007, I was diagnosed with an 8cm (baseball sized) very fast growing breast cancer. I had a negative mammogram 6 months earlier and had no evidence of any illness except for the mass on my right breast that I felt on November 24th. After 4 cycles of chemotherapy I had a bilateral mastectomy with right sided lymph node disection on February 28th, 2008 at John Wayne Cancer Center in Santa Monica, CA. The pathology report of the nodes indicated...Expand for more
metastasis of the cancer to 7 nodes. The affected nodes were removed, and there was no evidence of any further matastasis. The surgery was followed by 2 more cylces of chemo and and 8 weeks of radiation. I have been told that my prognosis is very good, and breast reconstruction is finally complete. My biggest obstacle now is FEAR that the cancer will return. I am blessed with a wonderful husband who has been very loving and supportive throughout this nightmare.
I graduated from University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing in 1983, and became a Registered Nurse the same year. Worked around the Houston and Conroe area as a Registered Nurse until 1992.
Married my husband, John, in 1991. We met through a Houston video dating service, and it was the first marriage for both of us. Lived in Albuquerque, NM from 1992 to 1993 to allow John to complete his medical training. We have lived in Bakersfield, CA since 1993. I hung up my nurse's cap in 1996, and have spent time traveling and volunteering with local theatres.
In August of 2008, we moved into our dream house in Bakersfield that we have been designing since 2001. I am truly celebrating life.".
