Coletta's Story

I never dreamed that one day I would be living in the land of Chile in South America sharing my faith in spanish and using my teaching degree to teach women and children the Bible so that they could connect personally with Christ.....but I am! In fact, it will be 12 years come January 2009. I am living proof of the verse in Proverbs that says, "The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his footsteps." As I went through school at OBA and learned about God at Oakhaven Baptist Church, I was constantly challenged to LIVE my faith and grow in my understanding of God and the Bible. I was an ambitious woman with many plans for my life. I carefully chose a lifemate that also was a God follower. I promised my parents not to marry until I got my degree. I finished my degree in 3 years instead of 4. Taught in both the private and public school system. Waited 5 years to have my first child so my husband could finish his masters program. As my 2nd child was nearing entering kindergarten, I made plans to do further study and enter the medical field. That is where the Lord directed my paths in a total different direction through my husband and missionary trips of taking California teenagers down to Mexico in the summer. My husband came in the kitchen one day and said, "Coletta, I feel the Lord is calling me into missions. He knew that He wouldn´t call just one if two are married. He said, will you pray and see if He is calling you, too." Those words brought a heaviness to my heart and anger to my emotions. I had grown up telling God that I would never leave our country, that I was content serving Him here in the local church. Over a period of 3 months the Lord did major heart surgery to change my mind. He used His word to persuade me. I wanted God to convince me not my h...Expand for more
usband, pastor, nor friends. One of 3 verses he used was John 12:25, "He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal." Friend, at this point in my life, I really loved my life and didn´t want anyone else telling me how to live it. It was a real battle of wills. Of course, the Lord always wins and what He decides will be carried out in His time. I finally made the decision to yield and let him use my life as He wished wherever he wished because He made it clear in so many different ways in that 3 month period that He was going to send James and I somewhere to plant churches in a place where no one else had begun a work. Although I knew it, accepted it, I DID NOT LIKE IT. My emotions were not supporting the decision. I agreed and obeyed God´s command to go trusting that my emotions would catch up later. And friend, God was faithful and true to give me the emotions, joy and peace, about this new life assignment. Being a missionary church planter is nothing like what I imagined. It is 100 times better. God blessed me, my family, our ministry and has continue to grow our understanding of Him and the Holy Bible. It´s all about living for Him, being a contagious christian, and leading others to a faith in Christ. Currently I am in Placerville, Ca on 6 month leave to put my son, T.J., in Master´s College the end of August. I will accompany my husband, James Morsey, to visit churches for a 6 month period to report on the church planting work we have done in Santiago, Chile. Life doesn´t always turn out like you plan. For me it has been a wonderful adventure!!!If you want to connect with me just look online for that site that starts with an F that most college kids join using my married name, Coletta Morsey.
