Colleen's Story
Hi - I am Colleen (Morris) Plucinski a 1968 graduate of Conestoga. I was at Conestoga only for my senior year but it was a good time for me. After graduation I worked for PA Bell Telephone for about a year and a half and had enrolled at Bryn Mawr for interior design. After a week's vacation to Chicago, IL. I made a life changing decision to move to Chicago. I met my husband, John, in Chicago and got married in 1970, we are still married and in September hit our 40th anniversary... time sure flies when you are having fun!! Although many years have passed since graduation in 1968, I don't feel that much older. John and I have a beautiful daughter, Maurene, who is also married to a John.... Maurene and John have one child, Joshua, and he is the joy of our life... what an amazing thing, to see your child grown and having their own child. Joshua was adopted from South Korea, as Maurene was unable to have children, and not to sound like a typical grandparent, he is the smartest and most beautiful (handsome) boy we have ever laid eyes on. Joshua just turned 6 in September and where has that time gone?
My husband, John is a now a retired technical engineer (land and construction surveyor). Over the years he has been on so many prominent Chicago construction sites, such as the Sears Tower, Trump Tower and more recently he was the foreman for his company on the two year reconstruction of Soldier Field where the Chicago Bears play. John also does leaded and fused stained glass. His work is beautiful.... I will post some pictures one of these days.
I worked for College of DuPage, a 2 year college, for 23 years but had to retire early because of health issue...Expand for more
s. Since I retired I started my own business and it is an absolute joy to realize a dream. I always had a love for sewing and now that has developed into a business. I have a quilting business, Harvest House Quilting, I design and publish my own patterns and I have a tool that I have developed and is registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office. It sure is fun getting up in the morning and getting to do work that is more like fun.
Over the years I had worked for several businesses, besides College of DuPage, and also have taught quilting since the mid 1980's in local shops, a large fabric chain store and through Adult Education programs at two local community colleges. I sure do love fabric...
John and I had worked with the homeless in communities outside of Chicago for 12 years. We handled the clothing distribution for the program for most of our 12 years. I was on the Board of Trustees for 4 years before we left the program. It is amazing how many people are homeless in such affluent areas. I just cannot imagine how many more there must be now with how the economy and job lose situations are.
I still have family out east... my sister, Karen and my mother now live in Maryland, and I love to get out there to visit frequently. I have really missed the ocean and beach. I always have to get my feet into the sand and water when ever I get a chance. Back in the day, I spent almost every weekend at the shore and I do miss that.
I don't think I have seen or heard from any Conestoga 1968 friends for many many years. It would be nice to hear what some of you have been doing with your lives..... I guess I will add more at a later time...
