Colleen's Story
Life
Hello Everybody,
Before highschool, I realized I was unprepared financially (and probably emotionally) to go onto college. There were all sorts of ideas I wanted to be from being a nurse, a linguist, a businessowner but lacked the direction.
I worked at various places (too many to list). I wanted to make money but like a bad relationship, I continually look for something I really enjoy. I fell into insurance by accident starting out as customer service, receptionist, administrative assistant, and then finally an agent. I am dual licensed (P&C & Life) and soon to be Series 6 & 63 licensed. I am currently working as a health insurance agent from home. Also training for a another company. I just want to help people. I've picked up a mindless job in the evenings just to get me over this tough time in my life. The only thing is that I am tougher!
Enough of the boring mumbo jumbo. I have two great boys. One is a little man of 13 and the other is 9. They do very well at school and make excellent grades. As we all seem to say as parents but I didn't realize it until I had kids that time just flies.
I married my boyfriend that I was with since 16 but our relationship wasn't strong enough to hold us together and have gone our separate ways. I don't feel badly about it. I have two wonderful boys and I am still young and happy.
I had Hodgkins lymphoma a few years ago but beat it. I had a fantastic support system: great doctors, family support, and fantastic friends. I went through chemo, shaved my head (contemplated getting a pink mohawk but didn't), wore a sexy blonde wig. My hair grew back after the treatment and I am doing great! I was shocked that I even lost my eyebro...Expand for more
ws, eyelashes, and body hair but it was temporary as expected. I trained for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training immediately after I was done (never had to go through radiation - yeah!). I raised money and felt good about giving something back since I was treated very well when I was going through it myself.
I just moved to Lancaster in February (2007) and happy to be here in Timbuktu. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it since it was my last resort as far as locations to move to after my landlord needed to sell his house in Woodland Hills. I have nice neighbors and it is really nice to be away from people and things that didn't make me that happy. It's worth gold to me! I live in a house where there's a big backyard where my 2 dogs are free to roam and my boys play with their friends. The yard needs a lot of work and that will be my next project coming up. I'd like to leave this house nicer than how I received it. I'm quite happy here at the moment. The winters are very cold (20's overnight) and extremely hot in the summer (113 hottest day I can remember here) but hey it's the Mojave desert!
I kept in touch with some friends and others just seemed to disappear but that is okay. The friends I have now are what counts. I have learned that family can be my best support and also my worst nightmare but I am also okay with that. I'm learning to find happiness inside and not to count on others - so far so good!
I'm looking forward to 2008 for a successful year, good health, and lots of love. I'd really enjoy to talk to anyone interested in getting to know me better. Don't be shy - I don't hold grudges and love to meet new people.
Take care,
Colleen :)
