Colleen's Story
After HS, I went to ISU and got my BA in French & Spanish and in 1973, an MA in French. In 1969, I started teaching F & S at Lincoln High School, where I taught for 21 years.
In 1990, I moved to Geneseo, IL, and taught both French & Spanish there for the next 13 years. The best memory from Geneseo happened in 1999, when I met Mr. Right!! Steve and I got married in 2001 and lived in Geneseo until 2004, when we moved to the country. I retired in 2003, after 34 years of teaching. I still miss the kids and sharing my knowledge of foreign languages. So, I guess that is why I went back to teaching part-time at Bureau Valley HS. I also had the opportunity to teach French at Augustana College for 2 trimesters, but decided to continue my retirement!!
There are SO many memories of my 34 years as a teacher. I me...Expand for more
t wonderful people, both students and teachers, and will always cherish those memories. The many trips to France, Spain and Mexico with students are among my fondest memories because of the satisfaction I received when my "kids" were able to communicate in another language! I love reconnecting with former students and enjoy knowing they have succeeded in life.
We have a Bichon Frise dog, named Bijou. She keeps me busy!! We like to travel in our 5th wheel, swim, read, listen to music, surf the net, fish, watch all the wildlife, especially birds, and used to go to drag races! Yes, my husband loves to race and of course, I hung out in the pit, watched, and heaved a big sigh of relief after every run!!
That pretty much sums up what I have done since HS! Would love to hear from former students and AHS classmates.
