Colleen's Story
1/28/12 (update)
The adventure continues. I have been back in the US for three years and am loving being able to turn on lights and drink the water. Living in Whitewater is always an adventure with my 85 year old Mom. It is truly a blessing to have this time with her and to continue to learn from her wisdom and experience. My brother Tad lives with us also. At 62 I just was downsized from my job at Inspiration Ministries in Walworth where I functioned as the DON. So now I have an opportunity to step out in faith again and start over in whatever position God brings into my life.
6/08 My life has become a great adventure. For the past seven months I have been a missionary in Ghana, West Africa. If anyone told me I would be doing this at my age, I would have written them off as totally foolish.
We are in the process of wading through reams of paperwork to establish our NGO status.(the equivalent of the not for profit organization in the U.S.)
Once we have completed the necessary paperwork we can begin caring for orphaned children, doing village medical outreach and church planting.
Living in a different country with a totally foreign culture and a tonal language is truly a great adventure. If you'd like to know more, contact me and I'...Expand for more
d be happy to share.
A bit of history: I attended school in Waukesha until 2/3 of the way through my junior year in high school when we moved to Manitowoc. I graduated from Linclon High School in 1967 and attended Columbia Hospital School of Nursing for a year. Then I went to UW extension in Manitowoc for a semester, got married, moved to Milwaukee and finished nursing at MATC with an ADN. I have two wonderful children and three beautiful grandchildren. I was divorced in 1993, met John, an awesome Italian man and got married in 1994. I graduated from Carroll College in 1997 with my BSN. John was killed in a car accident in 2002. And now I'm on a great adventure.
Update: We have our NGO naw are caring for Abena, a 10 month old orphan who was abandoned in a nearby town. Abena means Tuesday born so we picked January first as her birthday. She is just delightful. When she arrived here courtesy of a friend who has her own orphan facility, she weighed only 10 pounds but in the 5 weeks we have had her she has gained 6 pounds. She keeps us all entertained with her chatter and is beginning to crawl. I am looking forward to coming home for at least a few months in November and am really looking forward to seeing snow. It has been a year!
