Jim's Story
Jim is from Shelter Island Heights, New York. Jim is married to Margaret Colligan. Jim graduated from Westbury High School in 1965. Jim graduated from Niagara University in May 1969 and also attended Stony Brook Univ., Adelphi Univ (MA), and Hofstra Univ. (Professional Diploma). Jim worked at Carle Place High School for 35 years and served as the Director of Health, Physical Ed. Recreation and Athletics. He also coached varsity boys basketball for 29 years and had two teams compete in the NYS Championships in Glens Falls. He was inducted into the Nassau County Athletic Hall of Fame as an Athletic Administrator and Basketball Coach and into the NYS Basketball Hall of Fame as well. cation the basketball court in his honor in 2006. In addition, he was commissioned as a 2nd LT. in the US Army, serve in Vietnam and Desert Storm and retired as a full colonel in 1997. He also coached basketball at the Shelter Island School, served on the Board of Trustees at the Mashomack Preserve, was President of the Silver Beach Association and the Shelter Island Association respectively. Jim was elected as a councilman on the Shelter Island Town Board in 2016 and again in 2020. He is active in the American Legion, as well as Our Lady of Hope Church on Shelter Island. His main hobby is wildlife photography and enjoys playing tennis and golf. He is the proud grandfather of Lukas, Jesse, Simon, Genevieve and Brendan.
