Kerri's Story
After high school I went on to college - Lawrence Tech to pursue a degree in Architecture. I graduated in 1982 with a BS in Arch and no job. It was the first auto recession so I decided to continue on and get an engineering degree. I graduated the second time with a BS in engineering. I landed my first job in the field of transportation at SEMCOG in downtown detroit.
In 1988, I left Detroit for Houston, TX to work as a Traffic Engineer for a transit agency. While there I married my husband, Keith. Shortly after marriage, we moved to Keith's hometown of Long Island, NY. I got a job in Manhattan, working for a consulting engineering firm and began commuting into the City via the Long Island Rail Road. While at Parsons Brinckerhoff, I had the opportunity to work in Budapest, Hungary for a 3-mos. stint. It was a great experience. While there, I was able to meet my husband and two step kids in Paris, France. We spent Easter weekend touring museums, etc. ...Expand for more
I went back to Hungary and they went back to NY. I worked in Manhattan for about 5 years and then found a position on Long Island with a 20 minute commute.
I was able to return to Paris for a second time with my husband and this time we made it to the Louvre, saw Degas' works, Monet's Waterlillies and many other great masterpieces. We also made it to London through his business and enjoyed touring the gardens, castles, etc.
We relocated to San Antonio, Tx in 2007 when my husband took a new job. After finally selling our home in NY, I traveled to San Antonio in a rented RV with my sister and my 2 west highland terriers.
We have been here in San Antonio, TX since 2007 and are enjoying it very much. I have been gone from the Detroit area since 1988. All of my family is still there so I come back for visits often. It was sad to hear of Hubert Elementary and Redford High School being torn down. And to hear of what has been going in the area overall.
