Pat's Story
Life
Joined the Navy in February 1971. (Only way I could beat the draft). Initially trained as an Aviation Electrician. Volunteered for and was accepted to the Navy Helicopter Rescue Swimmer program. Following graduation I was assigned to Naval Air Station Key West Florida for 3 Years. In 1974 I met my wife Bonnie and we were married on St Patrick's day 1975. Our next duty station was NAS Bermuda. That exciting tour lasted 3 years and our first son Joel was born. In 1978 it was time to move again, this time it was to the tiny island of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. I was assigned to the Admirals aircraft as a flight engineer for the C131. Our second son was born in the next year. My family was evacuated back to the U.S. during the Iran Hostage Crisis. We were reunited at our next duty station in Guantanamo Bay Cuba where we lived for over 4 years. Then it was back to Key West for 3 more years where I was assigned to the same Search and Rescue unit where I had started my career. In 19...Expand for more
87 we were sent to Sigonella Sicily where I was assigned to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 4. During that tour I was assigned to numerous places throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East. Our lives became extremely busy due to Desert Shield/Storm. In 1992 it was time to move to Roosevelt Roads Puerto Rico. We extended our tour there to 5 years so that the boys could graduate from the same High School that they started. In 1997 We made our final move to Pensacola Florida. I retired 1 March 2001. We have no plans to move again and we are quite happy in Pensacola. I am currently working at Lockheed Martin and alos on a Master's in Instructional Technology at the University of West Florida. Summary: +Retiree with 30 years Naval service March 2001 as a Master Chief Petty Officer. +Happily married to Bonnie since March 17, 1975. Bonnie is career Federal Civil Service 25 years. +Sons: Joel graduated from FIU Dec 2001. Toby attending Florida International University in Miami.
