Walter's Story

Following two unproductive years at Glendale College during which I worked nights at the American Yearbook Company down on San Fernando Rd in Glendale, I dropped out for a year to work full-time in their litho camera department. (Of passing interest: American printed our 1961 Stylus.) At the end of that year, I returned to JC and raised my GPA enough to get into San Diego State, where I switched my major from biology to radio & TV broadcasting. Not too long after that, the government decided they'™d had enough of my pointless flailing at education and invited me to join them as a member of the U.S. Army. I was inducted three weeks after brother Ralph was discharged, so they had a Conner twin pretty much non-stop for four years. After a year in Southeast Asia (Thailand, not Viet Nam, thank God) where I was "Radar O'Reilly"™ (i.e. company clerk) for a medical group at the time of the Tet Offensive, I was discharged and ended up going to work for Moore Business Forms - yes, another printing operation - starting a 40 year career in the business forms industry during which I worked as an outside salesman, president of a small forms manufacturing plant, partner in a forms composition service bureau, prepress department manager, and general manager of a wholesale forms manufacturer. Along the way I learned computer programming with which I supported my several employers, and was granted a patent for a computer printer stand. My wife, Judy, and I were married in 1967,...Expand for more
and we have two adopted children: Our son, Casey (1972) is married and has presented us with the new love of our lives, granddaughter Piper (11/08) who we baby sit frequently. Our daughter, Emily (1984), came to us at 3½ months old, arriving at LAX on a "˜baby flight"™ from Seoul, Korea where she was born. I've been retired since August, 2008 and have found that retirement is one of the few things in my life that I do really well. I fill my time by working on the house and yard, and on craft projects --“ when the mood takes me. I've also discovered writing. 'Wizard of Wisdom', Book One in my 'WISDOM CHRONICLES' swords & sorcerers"™ epic fantasy series, was released as an ebook and P.O.D. (print-on-demand) paperback in June, 2011 by Double Dragon Publishing of Canada. Book Two, 'Princess of Wisdom', was released in February, 2012, Book Three, 'Children of Wisdom' was released in June, 2012, and Book Four, 'Kingdom of Wisdom', was published in March, 2013. Book Five, 'Heirs of Wisdom', was released in January of 2015, and Book Six, "Gods of Wisdom" was released in January of 2016. As presently envisioned, the series will conclude with 'Origin of Wisdom ~ a Prequel" on which I am currently working. I have no grand illusions that these will be the next LoTR or Harry Potter, but they've been great fun and extremely satisfying to create! All of them are available as ebooks and print-on-demand paperbacks on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes and KOBO and Lulu.com.

Hard to believe it’s been 53 years since I flew down from Ft. Ord on a Friday night, was picked up at Burbank Airport by my brother, then saw this adorable girl for the first time in three weeks walking down the aisle looki
Heads up, GHS Dynamiters!
Reuters missed it by a mile on this one! 🤣
(Hints: (1) Whattaburger, not a "Texas chicken joint" and (2) "Beto" not "Pete".)

For those of you being responsible citizens and self-quarantining at home, I humbly suggest there's a way to defeat terminal boredom for at least several days. 😉👍
