Connie's Story

Hi Everyone! David Spicer (my hunk and hero!) graduated from WC in 1975 and was my date for Junior Prom 1977 (remember Precious and Few??) We got married in March 2001 after being reunited in September 2000. Nothing like absence to make the heart grow fonder, but 22 years? I have 3 great kids from my first marriage, and added 3 step kids with my marriage to David. Sadly, my youngest son, Paul, passed away November 14, 2002, just 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. I miss him very much. I regret that he'll never know what he's missed out on in life, and that I couldn't make him better. I do believe he is in a better place, and I have faith that I will see him again someday. I can't imagine it otherwise. I have done quite a few things over the years, held many interesting jobs, started a few businesses. Probably the best, most interesting of them was to found a non-profit organization dedicated to child advocacy. I was able to lobby at the State level, and was quite the activist for a while! I created a local cable tv program (what, you never saw it? <G> I'm not surprised!)... I also enjoy my longest held hobby: genealogy, and have taken both sides of my family back a few centuries. (Thank Mr. Glancy and "Roots" for that!) In 2003, we started our own mobile entertainment business and did a lot of DJ'ing, trivia and karaoke for weddings, special occasions and the like. We brought it with us when we moved down here to sunny Florida. We moved to Vero Beach in late April 2007 and purchased a small card and gift store in Sebastian. We've also just started an etching and engraving business so we can produce our own line of personalized gifts. Anyway, right now, I am enjoying a saner pace, and a much more peaceful existence. Our kids are all grown and we now have two grandkids with David's younger daughter; hoping for more sometime. I like some of these story ideas, so I'll answer a few of them. The first idea, "How do you hope old friends remember you?", all I can say, is that I'm happy if they remember me at all! So many of you have gone on your own way, but please drop me a note. I would love to hear from each of you . Idea number 2: "I always wanted to be a __rock star__ when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a __bad and unrealistic__ idea. As it turns out, they were __probably wrong. I can actually sing and rock out pretty well! I love to karaoke, but mostly to entertain.___" I blow off steam by singing. There is music in my life, and I do it without realizing it most of the time. I also write music and once upon a time I played guitar a...Expand for more
nd piano. My hands don't work as well these days, so I'll stick to the basics (and my best instrument), vocals. The wildest thing I ever did in school was when I accidently set off the stupid fire alarm. We were standing outside the gym in Junior High, waiting for the gym teacher (I think it was Mrs. Pack??) to let us in. I was showing off to someone how well I could do the splits, and grabbed a pole to pull myself up. I didn't even think about it being the alarm. A few seconds later, and off goes the alarm. A few hours later and I was in the principle's office stupidly telling them how it happened, and trying to make sure they knew it was an accident. It really was! Honest! :) Idea number 5: If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have __coffee, and lots of it__, music___and no boss__ to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Afterward, a margarita might be good just to take the edge off. I have few heros, mostly because the people who are the most deserving are not the ones you see on TV or hear about in the paper. They are the people we love every day and take all too much for granted. Our parents-who put up with us (just for one small thing) and who did the best they could... Our kids, who taught us to get over ourselves and to give back... Even our pets have heroic qualities-silent and unconditional love, comfort and delight in every day, if we only take the time to look. My husband is my hero after all he has been through and overcome and for giving so much back to me when he should have become a totally jaded person. He is the best. Not least of my heroes are the ones on my board in my store. These are people I don't know, people who are serving our country, saving lives or protecting each of us from harm either here in our own country our outside of it. I stayed in Dayton for most of my adult life. We just moved to Vero in April of 07 and I expect at some point we'll move to Sebastian to be closer to our store. The biggest surprise in life has been finding out that I am stronger than I thought I was. I honestly thought I was finished after Paul died. I've lived through some pretty horrendous crap and survived, but losing my child, I thought I would never recover. After 6 years, I've discovered that there is a reserve, and that happiness is possible. I'm also grateful for every day I have, and every day I had with him. I guess if you were interested enough to read all this, you might want to drop me a line... (Site policy prevents me from posting my email addy here, sorry) But, please do write! I'd welcome the correspondence! Regards to all, Connie
