Connie's Story
Life
It's December, 2009and this year is flying by!!!
In case anyone is interested, this is a little about what's been going on in my life.
I live in Lovington, NM (since 1973) and own (since 1995) an independent insurance agency, Western States Insurance. I started my insurance career in 1979 as a personal lines customer service rep for another independent agency here in Lovington. There are currently 5 employees working for me.
My husband, Gary Sevier, has been in radio broadcasting since 1973. He is the production manager for Noalmark Broadcasting Corporation in Hobbs, NM. If passing through the area, you can catch him on 2 radio shows: KIX103 (102.9) from 2-6...or KZOR (94.1) from 10-2. Don't let those hours alarm you...this is a state-of-the-art digitized station. What you hear isn't always live!
We have a 29 year old son, Brian, who owns a home in and works in Hobbs, as well. He married his beautiful bride last year in our back yard. Brian works for a safety and environmental company and does all kinds of testing, safety training and supervising of remediation projects.
Gary & I own a home in Lovington, which we completed a total gutting and remodel last year. We have 2 beagle dogs, 2 cats and a pond full of fish on a 1 acre lot...which keeps us busy just keeping it all up! We love yard and garden work. I grow vegetables and do canning and fre...Expand for more
ezing at harvest time. We are also both Master Gardeners.
We both like to travel, especially to island getaways. I am a certified scuba diver and we have dived off Cozumel and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
My most recent adventures include serving 2 terms as president of our Chamber of Commerce and 2 years as president of our Economic Development Corporation. Our governor appointed me to the New Mexico Economic Development Partnership board about 1 1/2 years ago, which gives me opportunity to travel to different areas of the state for our board meetings. I also serve as a director of the Independent Insurance Agents of New Mexico board, which holds its meetings in Albuquerque. Lovington received its MainStreet designation last year and I was privileged to serve on the steering committee and now the board of directors. We have lots of great plans for our little town!
Fun things include driving my 1965 red Mustang convertible in parades (it is so cute as Santa's sleigh in our annual Electric Light Parade), car shows and rallies...or just taking it out for a drive on weekends to the local soda shops. For serious driving, there's a 2009 BMW328i in the drive, which is also a lot of fun! Right now, it is decked out as Rudolph, with antlers and a red 'nose'!
Will have to catch up on other happenings at a later time....gotta get back to work!
