Connie's Story

Life I've been here in Boonville since late 2003. I went back to work, union electrician, and see many old classmates working on construction sites. My pet family has grown by leaps and bounds! I think I have the words "soft-touch" on my forehead. I have four dogs; Corky, Wiley, Cassie Mae, and recently adoptd Sophie. Also, three cats; BooBoo Kitty, Jersey and Sherman. Still spend as much time as I can with two nieces; Kelsie Jo, 17 and Kaylen Rae, 14. Love them immensely. School High school was a great time! I had several friends from grade school and made new friends my freshman year, many I still see or talk to today. My favorite was the school dances or other teen dances. I loved going to the ball games to check out all the guys. My most fun times were with my friend Cindy. I also bowled alot at a local bowling alley and met many kids from other schools there. That is where I met my first husband. The teacher that had the most impact on me was Ms. Eberhard. She took her own free time to work with me so that I could pass Algebra because we couldn't fit a class into my schedule one year. I was in the first co-ed gym class at Memorial also. And I was the only girl from my class in it. All the other students were upper classmen. I learned to drive in high school, and the driving teacher gave me the nickname ...Expand for more
of Parnelli Jones who I didn't even know was a race car driver. When I told my dad what he had nicknamed me, he didn't take it as well since he knew who it was! Those were good years! College I have a few college credits from IvyTech and USI but have not pursued more classes for some time. Workplace I started in the electrical apprenticeship in 1982, it was a four year term at that time. I was the only girl in my class of 17. I have been a Union Electrician for over 25 years. I have often taken classes in Labor relations, counseling and politics, and updates to my field. I used to be a lot more involved, often volunteering to help with parades, picnics, meetings, dinners or whatever. I was on the committee to host our unions 100th anniversary. I went to several of the IBEW Womens Conventions and was able to meet our past and current national president. I made many valuable contacts and friends over the years. I have slowed down now since the death of my only child, Jerry, on the 28th of December, 2004. 10 days before his 28th birthday. He was diabetic. CHURCH I joined Morningside Cumberland Presbyterian Church a few years ago and love it. I have gone on two mission trips to Pine Ridge and Wounded Knee, South Dakota. And this year I hope to work a mission trip to the Appalachians. So far, that's me in a nutshell.
