Connie's Story
College: Graduated from Pacific Oaks College, Pasadena with a degree in Human Development with a Specialization in Early Childhood Education.
Workplace: After high school and college, I was a school bus driver, state trainer, and transportation director for about 15 years. But always wanting to go into the field of early childhood education, I then returned to college and pursued a career in teaching and administration. I started working as a teacher for Head Start and continued my education and career path in child development, working at UCLA , then at a private school as teacher and director, and finally as the Program Director for Easter Seals Child Development Centers in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. But I got tired of So. CA, so I moved to Auburn, CA and started working for the county office of education. Switching my focus from working with children to adults, I worked as a Behavior Specialist for ECE teachers and taught Parenting classes for Nevada County Superintendent of Schools. I was also a Community School Liaison for a Family Resource Center. In August, 2013, I retired and moved to Panama. I now live near the beach in Pedasi, Panama enjoying my "Third Life" in this beautiful tropical paradise. I volunteer at a nearby elementary school teaching English and lead "Defensores de Animales de Pedasi, educating the community about responsible pet care.
Family: I have 4 adult children. Met my husband Mikkel in Auburn, 2009. He has 1 adult daughter. Between them we have 8 grand...Expand for more
children. My husband, a Naval Academy graduate & officer, worked in the marketing & computer industry in Silicon Valley for many years, and then semi-retired working part-time in Commercial Real Estate. Noe he has his own online business selling maps & guides of Panama and Central America along with other items of interest for travelers.
Interests: Always enjoying music and singing since I was a child, I sang with Placer Pops Chorale, a professional music group in the Sierra foothills. They sing on a regular basis at the Three Stages-Harris Center in Folsom and Sierra College, and in 2012 toured through Ireland. I sang with the Praise choir as well as taught Sunday School at our local church in Auburn. Now I am on the worship team at a small local church in Pedasà singing in Spanish.
In 2008 I went on a short-term mission trip to Kenya and fell in love with traveling and meeting people from all parts of the world. My husband and I love to travel both locally and abroad, especially when we can visit our children, grandchildren, and other family members who live from Washington to Louisiana and everywhere in-between. Hence, when the opportunity opened for us to move to Panama, we jumped at the chance, sold everything, and never have regretted it. We also enjoy eating at small independent restaurants (no chains), but my husband is an excellent cook at home.
I have also discovered that I enjoy writing, so I now write a blog called "My Third Life-Pedasi, Panama" found on wordpress.
