More about Connie:"I was diagnosed with myxoid liposarcoma in 2010 when doctors found a cantaloupe-sized tumor in my upper abdomen. I underwent surgery for that tumor and then another one of the same size a year later. At that time, we decided to try chemotherapy on the next one that appeared. In March of 2012, the 3rd tumor was spotted and we began the harshest chemo there is. I was one of 33% that chemo actually works on who have this type cancer. After 4 months of chemo, the tumor has shrunk 68% so we have to continue the chemo to try to get rid of it altogether. This cancer is not considered curable, but we do ...Expand for more
hope to buy a little more time here on earth. I've tolerated the treatments pretty well but at this time, I am very worn out and barely able to function to just taking care of myself around the house. I haven't worked in months of course. Thank goodness, the new anti-nausea medications do really work for me and I have not suffered through that. I eat and read all day. We are planning a cruise in late September and I really enjoy planning for that and hope I will be able to walk the ship on my own two feet!
9/13/12 Update
We had to stop chemo because my body was just worn out. I am doing well now---walking well and bee-bopping around the house. Our cruise is next week & I'm am well enough to enjoy it! Next ct scan is in Oct. & will see what happens then.
Dec. 31 2012
Well, the scan in Oct.showed no new growth of the tumor so I was able to go without chemo for an additional 2 months. I've been back at work for the busy Christmas season and babysitting the grandkids is possible again. I had a CT scan last week and meet with the doctor today to see what the future holds!".
