Kevin's Story

Before graduation, yea like I was going to graduate from Northview, I joined the US Navy and enrolled in the Advanced Electronics program. That put me through almost 2 years of electronics training starting in San Diego, CA, then on to Treasure Island at San Francisco, CA and then finally to Groton, Ct for my advanced training on an inertial navigation system used on submarines. I lost my father to cancer shortly after completing my schooling. After my training and a short humanitarian stay at home, I served on an oceanographic research ship in the North Atlantic, a submarine tender in Charleston, SC and then on another submarine tender in Guam. On the way to Guam from Charleston, SC the ship stopped in Rio De Janeiro Brazil, Valparaiso Chile and Hawaii. My last duty station was at Fallon, NAS. Each of my duty stations were cool in one way or another, but Fallon was the one of the best. After 7 years in the Navy, I got married to a girl I met at Fallon and moved back to Covina in 1981. I enrolled in college at CalPoly, Pomona in Electronics Engineering, but working and going to school full-time soon became too much stress on me and my family. After 2 children, I had to give up my dream of finishing college and going back into the Navy as an officer. After about 7 years of living in Southern California, my wife received a job offer to move to Cincinnati, Ohio and work for another division of the company where she was working. This put us closer to her family, who had a farm and lived in Kentucky. It was in Ohio where I changed careers from electronics to IT through managing the implementation of a new computer system and manufacturing software, got divorced and finished my bachelors¿ degree, this time with a degree in IT. The company I was working for was loosing money and the corporation decided to break up the business and sell off the assets to another company. That was in ...Expand for more
1993, when I finished my bachelors¿ degree and found myself unemployed exactly 5 years to the day. I found a new job working for a software company in Minneapolis, MN, so I moved there in early months of 1994. I worked in customer support and learned the Oracle database and Unix operating system over the next 3 years. It seems in the software, or IT industry, changing companies was a regular event by your either moving to another company, or your company being bought out or sold to another. In 1996, the software application I was supporting was sold to a San Diego based company, Interactive Group Inc. Shortly after that, I was offered the opportunity to move back to California to work for the technical support group in San Diego, CA. While in Minneapolis I started working on my MBA through Cardinal Stritch University. After moving to San Diego, I transferred my credits to University of Redlands and completed my MBA. A year after moving to San Diego, Interactive Group merged with their competitor, Dataworks, and a year after that Dataworks merged with Platinum Software, now Epicor. While I was working at Epicor Software is where I met my current wife. We both went to work for NRT, at different times, and moved with the company from Mission Viejo, CA to Parsippany, NJ which is where we currently are living. After working in software development for 6 years at NRT, I quit my job to start my own business in real estate. I had thoughts of working as a real estate agent, while building my residential chattel appraisal business, but along the way I discovered mortgage notes and have started a new business servicing residential mortgages. My current plans are to move back to Southern California in a couple of years with our mortgage servicing business and set up shop somewhere between San Diego and Orange county. If you made it this far, say Hi and let me know what you are doing.
