Corene's Story
My first job was at Pacific Bell, where I got paid $68.00 per week to be a key punch operator. What I remember most about it is I thought I would work there for only two years. .
My goal was to work for Pacific Bell for two years, and move on. I ended up staying and retiring after 31 years of service. In my 31 years I worked as a key punch operator, office clerk and finally as a pay phone coin collector.
In my personal life I got married, divorced and had one daughter, Tracie. My daughter went on to college were she received her Bachelor and Masters Degree in Public Communications. She is now a Financial Aid Director at one of the universities in Los Angeles. Tracie had one son, Darren, who now is 10 and loves sports.
During those years I never remarried. We lived in Los Angeles, and finally I purchased a home in Fontana. After college Tracie worked at various universities in Los Angeles. She always wanted to work for a HBCU using her skills to help African American students. She decided to try her luck working for Prairie View A&M in Houston Texas. but only if I came too. By that time I was retired, so "what the hell" I moved to Houston also. We both had our own homes within a mile of each other. ...Expand for more
Even though Houston was very different from Los Angeles, and Fontana. we loved it. Although the summer heat and humidity took some getting use to, we still loved Houston. Within two years of being Director of Financial Aid, Tracie's ambitions and goals for Prairie View did not work out. After many unsuccessful job searches in Houston, Tracie finally excepted a position as Director of Financial Aid back in Los Angeles. Since I purchased a home in Houston also, I decided to stay. I knew there was no way I could find another home in Los Angeles in comparison or as affordable as my home in Houston.
So now I live in Houston. After 31 years with Pacific Bell (now AT&T) I was able to get a very good retirement, which affords me the opportunity to travel (which I love) and visit back and forth to Los Angeles.
At the age of 60, this is a glimpse of what my life has been so far. I have my health, and I am looking forward to what the rest of my life brings. Up to this point so far, with a few ups and downs, I can't complain. And I praise the LORD because my family and I have been very blessed. And I am so thankful.

PS: My last name is still Broussard, because after my divorce I took my madden name back.
