Craig's Story

Short bio as of early 2007: Here's a brief sketch of what's happened since high school: Job related matters: (1) I went on to an undergraduate degree (B.A.) at the U. of A. [double major in Economics and Philosophy] (2) Then a Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University [where the education was cheap, and, at the time, fairly good] (3) I had a temporary ["Visiting"] position at San Diego State University and simultaneously taught a couple of adjunct classes at the University of San Diego for a couple of years while writing the dissertation. (4) Then I took "permanent" positions at Denison University in Ohio and the University of Dallas until 1983. [Yes, I've had that beard since around 1978. It made the winters more bearable in Ohio, and I've never seen any reason to shave it off.] (5) Having become thoroughly disillusioned with academics at that point, I took advantage of a program for academic economists who wanted to obtain a law degree. The program was at Emory University University School of Law, from which I graduated with a J.D. in 1986. (6) Since then, I have been a practicing attorney with several firms in Phoenix, mostly in the area of Chapter 11 and collection law. Family Matters: I married in 1987 and, with a now grown child having married and left the nest, I now have a household filled with surrogate children - some furry, some feathery and some scaly [otherwise known as dogs, cats, birds and snakes]. I also have a yard filled with succulen...Expand for more
t plants [one of my childhood enthusiasms]. Let's not talk about the book mania, after all, they do make good insulation. [Update as of mid-2009. A strange thing has happened. After 20 years of married life my wife has suddenly caught the succulent plant fever. True, her specialty of caudiciforms is different than my mainline interests, but what a development!! Needless to say, if the yard was packed before it is now starting to look like a nursery.] Politics and Religion: Most of you who knew me in high school know that I became a political "extremist" in 1964. That hasn't changed a bit, but my ideological alignment has changed a lot along with the political spectrum in the United States. Those who stayed with the same labels but shifted with the societal political spectrum would now find me to be peering at them from the other side of that spectrum. Religious matters: Another thing that has changed a lot is my religious affiliation. I was raised as a Methodist and left that church and became an agnostic around age 15. That remained unchanged until about 7 years ago when I converted to Conservative Judaism, which I find to be very compatible with my wider life outlook. It is probably difficult to explain for those who have not studied the field of comparative religions, but I am still an agnostic from a Christian standpoint - it is just that "being religious" for Christians and "being religious" for Jews are two quite different things. And so it goes......
