Craig's Story

Life 3/27/04 Well, so much has changed during the past 6 months since I listed my bio. I started working again in late September back with the same company. Thanks to my old boss and a newly created position. I was happy to be working again, but soon realized why I left. Somethings really can get worst. I'm still there waiting for the job market to improve, so I can move on after 6 years. Now that Spring is here, I started my 2nd season coaching Tee ball-the Astros and the kids are great. After coaching fall tee ball and my experience helping out at Nathaniel's school, I've decided to go back to school and start teaching. But am thankful to have had great influenticial teachers in middle/high school: Mrs. Brady/Mrs. Carson/Mrs. King. Hopefully, I can make the same difference one day. I would like to invite old classmates to drop me a line to see how things are going. College After graduation, I started Marshall University for two main reasons: MU offered a double major in MIS and Mathematics, second; the farthest I could get away from home, but stay in WV. After my second year, my work hours started to increase to where I worked more than I attended classes to help pay for school and completed 80 hrs. While attending Marshall, the Gulf War started and because of the debates and the Patrotism I felt, I enlisted in the Army in Oct. 92 to serve my country and to help pay for school. (I served my country and am trying to get back to school.) Military Basic Training: Oct 92-Jan 93 Attended basic training at Fort Sill, OK. AIT: MOS(Job Title) Psychiatric Specialist Jan 93-June 93 Attend AIT at Fort Sam Houston, TX (San Antonio)Medical Center with Charlie Company 187th Medical. First Assignment: June 93 - Sept 95 Fort Lewis, WA just south of Seattle. Assigned to the 47th (CSH) Combat Support Hospital while my newly activated unit arrived to Fort Lewis. bat Stress Control. During my assigment to Ft Lewis, I supported the Inpatient Psychiatric unit at Madigan Army Medical Center (5 North) and the outpatient clinic by teaching Stress Management and Suicide Prevention Courses, while providing one-to-one peer counseling. Reassigned overseas to Germany: Sept 95-Dec 97 Wiesbaden Air Base just 15 miles west of Frankfurt. Once again I had to wait while other members where scheduled to arrive. Meanwhile I was assigned to the 212th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) then to the newly created unit, 254th Medical Detachment (CSC) Combat Stress Control Unit. As before, our unit focus was to provide intervention to overstressed soldiers, stress management classes and to teach unit commands and peers to identify signs of possible suicide attempts. During my assignment to Germany, we received orders on Dec 26, 95 to deploy within 24 hrs under NATO Peacekeeping Mission to Bosnia. Our 6 member team deployed to help those with the initial shock of a war torn country, devastation and the possible danager from the locals. I remember leaving RheinMain Air Force Base, Frankfurt Germany without a snow flake in the sky and loaded our equipment and landed at the staging base in Hungary with 18" of snow. Reality sunk in real quick. Of the 6 member team, Shanna and I were the last to return after spending 300 days under NATO. Something our current troops in Iraq will endure. But thankfully, the 113th Combat Stress Control Unit is currently deployed in Iraq/Kuwait providing counseling to our Armed Forces. My tour to Germany / Bosnia will be something I will remember for a lifetime. Before returning to the US, I spent 2 1/2 weeks travelling around Europe. During this time I was able to visit: Greece, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, and the small country of Luxemburg. I pray for our current deployed members and families that they return home to their families. God Bless the USA
