One of Craig's favorite quotes is:"You can teach this ol dog a new trick or two, Reno is so close to hell you can see Sparks, Lake Taco.... (Lake Tahoe), Over the Hill.... I-80 to Sacramento.". More about Craig:"Well it all started a couple of years ago in the summer of 1957. The San Fernando Valley was mostly dotted with a ranch or two and sprawling fruit tree orchards. I'm the youngest of five children consisting of two older brothers and two older sisters. Growing up in the 1960s and 1970s was cool and pretty much care free. Being abducted on the way to school or drive by shootings where never heard of. In the 60s this valley just outside of L.A. was smog free,Summers had hot temps and blue sky's. Summer breaks were spent going to the beaches like Malibu, Santa Monica, and Zuma, or hanging out with my buddies riding our bikes or playing baseball or over the line. The years 1969 to 1975 created the best school memories anyone could have. During those years I attended Sequioa Jr. High and Reseda High Schools. Everyone I met and became friends with are still to this day considered good friends. Those friends,,, and you know who you are, will read this and remember what a kick-ass and cool time in our lives we had. I think our biggest obsticle was how and who was going to by us beer on Friday and Saturday nights. After high school I hung around the valley off and on until 1978 and then made a final move to Reno,NV. for good. In 1978 Reno was a very small ,a friendly cowboy kind of town, A hand shake was an code of honor and friendship, There wasn't a problem with traffic, and people respected each other. The people, climate and location brought me here. Every year reno will get a taste of four seasons, sometimes one...Expand for more
season stronger then before but all-n- all a very beautiful place to live. Beautiful high desert all around to the north, east and south which provides exellent hunting and fishing just 30 minutes outside the city limits. Go west about 7 or 8 miles and your in the majectic Sierra Nevada Mountians. Now who can beat this place for the perfect location hub? For the last 32 years of living here have been just great, but now things are alot more cramped! traffic is terrible, and not many people you meet know what respect comes with a hand shake, or they just don't care. Eastern Nevada is a mirror image of what reno was like 30-40 years ago, maybe a move is in order? But for now Reno is still home and now living up to what it is called....THE BIGGEST LITTLE CITY IN THE WORLD!!! While in Reno I've had special opportunities like the one in one of my pictures. In this pic it shows Marie Haxby ladeling sauce on an order of ribs while I'm shown cutting up a rack of ribs at a ribfest in Lincoln Nebraska. I was a part of Johnsons BBQ cooking team. We took first place and a prize of $1000.00 in the NEBRASKA PORK PRODUCERS CAPITOL CITY RIBFEST.I toured with Johnsons BBQ in 2008. While traveling with them I cooked my way across America stopping in 20 cities in 22 weeks. What a great way to see America from Minnesota to Texas and then Boston to California. The best part of it all was I was getting paid to see this great country we live in and to eat the best BBQ this country can Q-UP!!! One little small detail is We placed in 17 out of 20 competitions, 9 First Place trophies, and 8 Second Place trophies, not bad. So the next time your at the Rib Cook-Off in Sparks,NV held every Sept. be sure to stop by Johnsons BBQ and get some award winning Ribs cooked by a local boy.....ME! Moving on I'd just like to say thanks to all my friends, ones from long ago to the ones I've met here in Reno. You all have made me a very blessed man and I would never trade a memory for a million bucks.......Well maybe just one. Lets all keep in touch! Love You All.....Craig".
