Crista's Story
Life
After highschool attended University of Houston for 2 years
Married 16 years and birthed two sons
Divorced 2.5 years
Remarried now 15 years
One son graduated from UH
One son attended UH 2 years and now at ITT
Owned at dance studio and non profit dance company for 10 years
Built a contract dance teaching business for Private Schools
Currently teach full time, run the business and choreograph for professional
performances
Diagnosed with Non Hodgekins Lymphoma in summer of 2004
Achieved remission in 2004 after 6 months of chemo and radiation
still in remission
Greatest test of my life and shocked myself that I did it:
Taught 14 classes per week, walked/jogged Memorial Park 3 mile track 3
times per week, and kept up my 3 ballet classes per week at Houston Ballet
DURING CHEMO AND RADIATION.
It was the worst and best...Expand for more
thing I have attempted in my life.
It was partially heroic......and partially stupid.
Enjoy good wines with dinner (good wine is not necessarily expensive)
Drink 1 Vodka Martini with 3 olives when something really stressful happens
Drink 2 Vodka Martinis with 3 olives when at a favorite bar in New York City
each Christmas
Cannot drink much while teaching dance for 10 months out of the year
Have season tickets to Houston Ballet
Have a mini season for the Opera (I go alone as my husband hates it)
Travel to Wash DC, New York City, San Francisco, Memphis and Toledo on a
regular basis...adding in Boston and Chicago as we can
have been in over half the states in the US
I love my country and wish I could do more to make it better.
...Am just crushed to hear of more deaths in our graduating class...grateful to be still here.
