Jill Crollick:

CLASS OF 1969

Jill's Story

I am looking forward to the 50th reunion. We were an interesting group of kids living in an interesting (sociologically) community...at a fascinating time in history. So very much would love to talk to everyone and get their ideas of who we thought we were at the time and how time and history has affected us...did UD, both the school and community, put us in a good place to deal with the future that we had. I am in the process of carrying out ideas, hopes, and plans that originated in Miss Renzulli's 5th grade classroom...room 207 at DH Elementary...am I right about the room? I was transported by geography and I made a decision to, some day, see the world. I spent a lot of time way back then learning about all the places around the world I would eventually want to see....giving me geography skills that were always challenged by John Shedwick, I believe, in 7th grade geography challenge in social studies class. I cannot begin to tell you the excitement I feel when I come upon a vista that is exactly as I remember seeing it for the first time in a picture in My Weekly Reader. Moscow State University in Moscow and the Opera House in Sydney being standouts. Since my last child "left the roost" a few years ago, my husband and I have been "aggressively" traveling...Expand for more
. We've hiked in Chamounix, Slovenia, Albania...and have the Pyrenees coming up soon. Not sure if my knees will allow us to go for the goal of summiting Kilamanjaro like we planned. Travel has been to South Africa, Costa Rica, Japan, Patagonia, Rio de Janiero, Buenos Aires, Santiago, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, Poland, Siberia, China, Morocco, Uzbekistan, and various places in Europe, among others. The rest of 2019 has the Balkans, Austria, Southwest China, Tibet, and Antarctica scheduled. We're already working on 2020. Why the rush? Well, my husband has a relative increased risk of Alzheimer's and I'm on borrowed time vis a vis my knees. I have a genetic disorder called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which "collected" years and years of stresses on my joints so that I'm potentially facing the need for a wheelchair, hopefully later than sooner. Carpe diem, as they say. And...btw...Classmates somehow won't let me change my location profile which is locked in to the zipcode of my residence in Jerusalem, Israel, but identified as Solvang, CA. I don't live in California...but travel there frequently as to other States having kids in Oakland, Seattle, Phoenix, Chicago, and northern NJ. Again....hope to see many of you in September.
