Crystal's Story
Life
Hi everyone! I've been married for 9 yrs. now and am living in a suburb of Indianapolis, IN - of all places - my husband's job as a software engineer brought us here! I have 2 beautiful kids, a 6-yr.-old boy and a 2-yr.-old girl, and right now I'm a stay-at-home Mommy with them. I love being a mother, more than anything else I've ever done. My husband, Kent, is 13 yrs. older than me; he's a sweetheart of a guy, an awesome husband and a wonderful father to our kids. Even though I'm really far from home now and miss my family and friends terribly, I am overall happy in Indy and will probably be here a while longer since we own a house here.
Let's see... what else can I say? My life has been a pretty crazy series of events since high school! When I was 19 and attending UW, I fell in love with this 35-year-old hippie guy (with hair down to his butt,) :-), and became a hippie myself. I went to 17 Grateful Dead shows from 1990-1994, while Jerry Garcia was still alive. After 3 years of college at UW, (but doing a lot more partying than studying or attending classes,) I broke up with the guy, dropped out of school - yes, I, the nerd, actually dropped out of school! - and moved back to Cheyenne, where I worked at the Cheyenne Country Club for 3 years as a waitress. After a while, I began to feel that I was stagnating in Cheyenne and moved to Ft. Collins, CO.
I then wasted several years of my life continuing to work 70-80 hours/week as a waitress. :-) Then I sold cars (yes, it's true!) for a couple of years, which was actually kind of fun. At age 26, I met my husband Kent and returned to college at CSU in Ft. Collins. We were married in 1999, when I was 28, and then we moved to Denver and I attended anot...Expand for more
her year of school at CU/Boulder. We then followed my husband's career to Indianapolis and I had my first child, our little boy, in 2002 when I was 30. After his one-year contract with Eli Lilly in Indy was up, we moved back to Ft. Collins to be closer to family & friends. However, the job market was so bad in Colorado during those years (2002-early 2005) that Kent was unemployed in his field for that entire 2-and-a-half-yr. period; things got so bad at one point that Kent & I split up for 9 mos. I attended another year of school at CSU, then worked as a CNA for a year. When Kent was finally offered another job, it was once again for a company back here in Indy!! (What are the odds?) We returned to Indianapolis again. Then, in 2006, we had our second child, a sweet little girl named Rachel. We bought a house in a nice suburb called Fishers, where our son goes to an award-winning (public!)school in a highly-rated school district, and there's a pond at the end of our backyard where we get to see the new baby ducks and geese each spring, so we have a good life here!
I go to Unity church now, which is a part of the New Thought movement; although it is Christian-based, it holds with the belief that there are many paths to the Divine (or God, or whatever you want to call it), and that spirituality and enlightenment can be found in ALL paths. I like it because it is truly a unifying theology; I find it to be a refreshing change from the rigid dogma and exclusivity of many religious groups. It also incorporates quantum physics and metaphysics into spirituality, which makes sense to me!!
