Curtis's Story
After Wilson, it was on with the masses of undecided over to LB City College. Many of us from Wilson had great times joining the Club System there. I joined the Order of THOR. We spent way too much time in the Student Lounge planning parties with the women's clubs or playing various sports for our clubs in search of the Iron Man Sports Trophy, that Thor won both years I was there. We also won the GPA Award both years.
After LBCC it was on to UNC (Northern Colorado) with some Wilson High friends, where we all lived, played, and attended at the UNC School of Business.
After graduating UNC I moved around a few times for different opportunities at Honeywell, Westinghouse, and then TYCO International., climbing corporate ladders. I managed to get myself transferred back to LB in late 1993 as a Regional Director and was happy to be home again among friends and family, living in Belmont Shore.
Everything was going great.... uh..until mid-1996 when serious heart problems showed up. Doctors at USC found Advanced Cardiomyopathy that required a heart transplant for me to live much longer. I was on the Heart Transplant "waiting list" for over 30 very L O N G months, but was lucky to have held on long enough to receive a new heart in 1999, and survived the difficult recovery process. nged many things, regarding how I live life and see things around me now.
I moved from Seal Beach/Rossmoor after 16 years to our new home built in Cary NC in 2008. Cary reminds me of Irvine in the '70s. Enjoy living here very much. Great people, who are very polite, welcoming, and friendly. slower pace of the region, and the uncrowded roads and entertainment venues compared to Southern Cal. Having UNC, DUKE, and NC State located close by adds educational, medical. and great sports entertainment and excellent concerts going on all year.
Raleigh is still a great city to live near. Plus, you get a really beautiful home and some land around it here for a still reasonable price....well, compared to Belmont Shore, Long Beach......:) BUT I will always TRY to get back to the Shore, and the weather..
Raleigh was named America's Smartest City again last year, and always rates near the top as one of the "Best Places to Live in the USA". The "Triangle Area" has a very highly educated population, with more people holding Masters Degrees than any other city in the entire South. Come check it out for yourself some time. Huge Tech Center. for business in RDU.
