Cynthia's Story

Brief summary since leaving Northport High: Recently moved from Cudjoe Key Fl,, Ground zero for Cat 4 Hurricane Irma, to just South of Jacksonville, FL. Over the years, we have met some truly wonderful, special folks and occasionally the not so wonderful. It has been a HUGE Privilege to have lived in the FL Keys . I will miss a friend who wrote a Pulitzer Prize novel. Attended my college. She is lost to us because of early onset Alzheimer's. WE have parties where we mix straights and gays, liberals, moderates and conservatives, old and young (as in a slim 12 yr old female showing us her new interest- playing the tuba). WE have boat mechanics mixing with provosts of Ivy League schools. Trump associates (IE business partners) and liberal gay/ lesbian intellectuals, and then us moderates. It has truly been quite a RIDE! Our Moms and Dads must be pleased. Ground rules are politeness, tolerance and respect. Update- We have listed our house on Cudjoe Key. Working like crazy to get the "manana" stuff taken care of.. Season in the FL Keys is about to start again. Our class roles are growing at the fitness center. Thought we'd have a breather. NOT! The program I have had the privilege of leading has changed so many lives for the better. Clients off of meds- clients no longer needing surgeries. Clients in better physical condition then many have seen in YEARS. Then comes the BIG C- Cancer. WE- my clients and I lost several classmates / friends to it this year. We have overcome so much. Cancer is the next frontier. We have new clients every week- younger and younger- male and female. Youngest is 4 months- in a front pack on her Dad. Oldests are 2 females- age 87. One is a recently widowed line dance instructor whose recently deceased husband was a sculptor/painter. His works are in the Smithsonian. She is also a painter, AND they had jewelry studio in Greenwich Village. She's a jewelry designer as well. OOPS, nearly forgot, she's also an orchid expert! The second is a lovely, TINY, SKINNY lady, originally from MA. She still lifts 5 lb weights does the full routine without sitting down, AND OF Course takes care of her OLDER FRIENDS in our neighborhood. NO JOKE! She drives them around town to their appointments. I want to be THEM when I grow up! THAT is the KEYS! Someth...Expand for more
ing to be said for the lifestyle. I WILL MISS THIS!!!! The JOY! The CELEBRATION of LIFE! GO FOR IT! Hoping for the same in St. Augustine. Honest and true comments today in class with a older 40's male newbie ( rehab) to an older 60's long term male class member- "you mean I can have a Snicker's bar AND a glass of milk before class?" Answer: "Yes, but not the BIG Snicker's Bar and a SMALL glass of milk." "You have your protein, your fat, your sugar and your caffeine." If you are not falling out of your chair laughing, you don't get the KEYS! Guess what I have been saying all along is that you can pretend you can stay young, or learn to age gracefully, powerfully and yet again LEAD THE WAY for others to follow and build upon. I have been blessed with incredible role models. I have also been blessed with folks that DO UNDERSTAND that at this point, we cannot restore SOME of what has been taken away due to aging, but we can PUSH THE LIMIT on what IS KNOWN. I believe it is just the beginning of a stronger healthier life for us all. AND our CHILDREN and our GRAND CHILDREN!! PS AND I'm not selling any miracle cures! Just hard work and hopefully, having FUN! .Offered to do a Sr fitness class for the next reunion. FREE, HOWEVER, need a space. Co-ed class. Update: Well missed the reunion. Life got in the way. Learned about Heiko's passing On the 4th of July 1017. Shocked and saddened. If you know his sister Meta, a nice note might help her deal with her loss. We finally moved, from Cudjoe Key FL to North FL after 2 major hurricane seasons in August 2017. Sold our power cat and lots of other stuff. Sold our house BEFORE Irma went over it. Called the new owners, two very nice ladies from Seattle, and offered to help them close the house, only to find out they were still in Seattle, packing up. And so, we went down, and with the help of our friends, did a hurricane lock-down on the house we no longer owned! Eye went OVER THE HOUSE. NO DAMAGE!! Landscaping not so much. Sigh, an opportunity for the new owners to put their stamp on it. Well it looks like I'm in the fitness business AGAIN! This time water aerobics. Offered a job after the second class. More later. PS The are CLUELESS about my age. The lady who is 11 years younger than me thinks she's older. EXERCISE!!! XO .
