Cynthia L's Story

Life Married in 1965, again in 1968, then again in 1997. Have 1 child, a daughter, grown now, with two daughters of her own, who are grown as well;each with a daughter of their own. Ron, my current husband, managed a two hundred cow dairy farm in Morris before we married, but now is an o.t.r. trucker with his own rig. When we moved to our present address I brought several of the farm kitties with me, besides my own six. I have ten at this stage.... Ron thinks they are my passion, but my real passion is my savior, Jesus Christ. My kitties are my compulsion. I also love having my two darling granddaughters with me....they don't think of me as their grandmother, though....my mom is their grandmother.....and of course, they have a mom, so I'm someone inbetween. Most days, you would find me roaming the woods of my front, back, and side yards.... playing with trees, rocks, and critters, or digging around my flower beds. In the winter, I read, watch old...(pre-1960) movies, do crossword puzzles and surf the internet..... that is, when I'm not off on one of my part-time jobs. Re-connecting with old acquaintances has become another compulsion. I spend more time in my hometown now that my Mom is alone. My Dad died in 2003. Mom needs me to get to doctor appointments, groceries, and act as her agent. I've lived in NY all of my lifve and although I've moved around NY a bit, due to changes in circumstances....I've never escaped from NY. School Grade School was easy for me...so easy that I thought High School was going to be easy, too. It wasn't. The worst part? Having a strict father, so my social life never developed the way I wanted it to, until my senior year. Dearest friends: Darleen, Jeannie, Andrea, Micky, Carol, Linda, Cindy A, Barb, Gloria, Virginia, Penny, Phyllis, Donna and Eileen. I took four years of Latin which was a fun class, and I've always been thankful I stayed with it. The boys I dated were from other schools or a lot older. My favorite teachers were Louise Ralph, Mrs. Blodgett, Dottie Davis, Claire Lane, Don Springer and Phoebe....I liked Miss Einseidel too. I loved school lunches...no kidding! I loved being on the Newspaper (The Smoke Signal) staff, too. My favorite gym class was volleyball and gymnastics.... does anyone remember "circus club"? Back in 1958/59 or so? Mr. Schotzbarger? (sp?) I HATED hockey and soccer. But I LOVED "Iowa Tests of Basic Skills"! I think the one thing anyone at a reunion might find most surprising might be the fact that I've been married three times. Not that I was looking for that to happen...well, the first marriage only lasted in essence, six months. lol Which teacher would I love to see again? ...Expand for more
Hmmmm...I see a few of them regularly...and my favorite ones are now deceased...but I'd like a second chance at history class Mr E. Wouldn't it be fun to line Mr. E up for an impromptu history class reunion ? Complete with quiz? The Wildest Thing I Ever Did in School? Make a trip five days before graduation, with three other classmates, to visit with the President of our School Board to have a standing rule changed. We were not successful, I reget to report. Whatever Happened to My First Crush? Omigosh...that was when I was three years old. He was my second cousin and sixteen yesrs older than me. I didn't work out, obviously. How Old Friends Remember me? Well, someone on the Yearbook Staff picked the sentiments that were captioned next to our senior pictures. For me, that person/persons chose, "Persuasion on her lips, encouragement in her heart." I hope that is the way I am remembered. College College studies were basically secretarial in nature for me, although the only skill I use from that experience is typing.....and filing......and telephoning....which I hate. The courses were easy for me and I would have continued, except for major issues which caused changes in my life. I always thought I'd return one day to college, but that never happened. The rest of my life happened. Workplace While I'm retired now, my third job was my longest, at 22 years, working for an advertising publication.....first as a graphic designer, layout/typist, in Richfield Springs, then later as proofer, too, in Norwich. I even spent a year at the Daily Star. Until my dad's recent passage to the presence of The Lord, I helped my mom care for him, and assisted a couple of elderly ladies in my hometown. Now my main concern is my mom.....and keeping her active, though I look forward to summer vacation weeks with my girls. I do push papers around for our Trucking Company...as secretary of the corporation, I have to do something! The weirdest job I ever held was telephone sales for the Daily Star. It's why I HATE telephones. To Be Truly Happy, What? Well, to know Jesus Christ is to be truly happy in spite of life's predicaments. But the one thing that satisfies other than Jesus, is being in my "wheels" with the radio on....and a long stretch of moonlit road ahead of me. Life's Biggest Surprise: The one you love doesn't always love you back. My One Do-Over? I would definitely not have gotten married the first time. (I married better than he did) I think I might have joined the WACS. But that would have altered the rest of my path in life. What do I want for the future? World Peace! Doesn't everyone? A little chocolate along the way would be nice, too.
