Cynthia's Story
This is an interesting process--what's my story since high school? I got married to Mark Schroyer that November, moved to the DC area to work for the CIA as a secretary, and within 6 months got into a telecommunications training program and lived in West Africa for 2 years. I loved it, Mark didn't. Worked my way up the ladder at the CIA, despite having no college degree. Mark and I divorced after 11 years, no children. A sad and tragic postscript: Mark was killed by a drunk driver while changing a flat tire on the side of the road. Fortunately, that was the catalyst for reinitiating contact with his parents, whom I adore and continued to have a close relationship with until they too passed.
After 13 years of working at the CIA, I took a downsizing bonus and left. I didn't know what I was going to do, I just knew I wouldn't find it while I was still there. I had been through a transformation of sorts--did a lot of "human potential" workshops and therapy. Realized there was a whole other way of living than I realized. nd into Mexico, where we lived in an artists colony called San Miguel de Allende. I studied art, learned Spanish. Walked everywhere on the cobblestone streets. Bought fresh fruit and vegetables each day. Ideal! After 3 months I returned home to live with my brother Tom in NJ, whose wife was in a coma. He needed help desperately as he was trying to juggle his job, hospital visits and taking care of his 4 year old twins. So I was inducted by fire into temporary "motherhood". One day I forgot to feed them dinner until 10 pm. Oi Vay. (The twins are now 27, the mother is recovered and my brother races cars as his hobby!).
Fast forward: went back to school, got my bachelor's degree, got my masters, started my own business as a master coach (only about 1000 in the world) and consultant, specializing in leadership, change, communication and team building.
My ex partner and I have two children adopted from Southeast Asia. I love my life. I am fortunate to have an avocation that is also my livelihood. Living from passion & purpose is my personal motto--my life's journey--and also what I help other people do as a coach and trainer. I help people and organizations achieve breakthrough results that align with their purpose!
