Cynthia's Story
Wow... this is hard to do. Graduated from Salisbury in '73 with a major in Sec. Ed. I was dually certified to teach French and English. I taught for 4 years and then began a career in retail sales of decorative home accessories. I married my high school sweetheart and we had our son who is now 30, married with 2 stepchildren and one biological son born Oct. '09.
I was married, mostly happily, for 28 1/2 years. It is too complicated to attempt to explain but we ended in June of 03. For a while, I thought I'd die, but I didn't. I relocated to Chestertown where I had been working since I returned to teaching in 2000. Bob and I still own the house in Cambridge together though we divorced in '04. Our son and his family live in it now. It makes me feel really good that he sees that house as "home" and wants to stay there. I suppose it means I must have done the home and hearth things right.
Bob and I have remained best friends. He and his new love come to my house for all the holidays and family functions. It makes things soooo much nicer for our son and his family. And neither of us can imagine not having each other in our lives. So it's a little strange but it works for us.

ngle for a while and life is good. I had always thought I had to be coupled in order to be happy, but I've now learned that's not true. I can be happy with a Prince Charming, but life is good without him too.
And the weight issue.... I'm still battling that one and have periods of winning the battle, but not often. I wish there were some secret remedy to the problem. It probably would have been easier for me if I'd not learned to cook!
When I moved to Chestertown I brought my mother with me. I bought a lovely home with a big yard so the yard work keeps me plenty busy during the summer months when school is out. I often find myself teaching summer school because single women can always use the extra money.
So... I get up each day to go shape young minds. They seem to enjoy the crazy Mrs. Phillips and for every student I'd like to eviscerate there are ten who need and deserve a hug. I have a wide circle of friends with whom I share my free time. So I will repeat.... Life is good!
A few quotes that help me during particularly busy or "down" times:
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."
"Well behaved women seldom make history."
"Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass---it's about learning how to dance in the rain."
