Cynthia's Story
After graduating from Rayburn in January of 1981, yes January. (We were the last class to be able to graduate at the middle of the year.) I went on walk-about I guess would be the best term. I had multiple jobs and lived in several locations with the only commonality being that they weren't in Pasadena.
Being the know-it-all genious, that I thought I was, I thought that I was much too intelligent to attend college and that my high school diploma would take me anywhere I wanted. During this time I learned to true meaning of living within your means, rather painfully in some cases.
Now it is over 30 years since I have been inside Sam Rayburn High School and I have accomplished more than I imagined in that building. I have been married to my best friend since 1984. We have 2 wonderful sons that unfortunately for them have their mother's streak of youthful imperialism. d on the property.
I still have not returned to Pasadena but am currently living in LaPorte helping my mother with some issues that began as medical and have evolved into the financial.
I did learn that a high school education is worth very little and have returned to school. So far, I have earned my Associate's in Accounting and am in the process of getting my Bachelor's in Accounting. I should graduate about 3 weeks after my 50th birthday. There begins the second half of my life.
I went to Park View Intermediate and Mae Smythe Elementary while I was growing up on the "berry" streets. My best friends in school were Staci Coble, Linda Staggs and Robyn Walsh. My little sister is more widely known than I was during school. Her name is Claudia Higginbotham Berry and graduated in 1984.
The only reunion that our class had was the 5 year reunion. At least that is the only one that I heard about. I was not able to attend that event becasue of personal health reasons at the time.
