Cynthia's Story
Life
Graduated from San Francisco State in 1971 (finally!) and spent the next year living on a Greek Island with my poet boyfriend. Returned to SF in summer of '72 and began working in travel and computers. Married first husband in '75 and bought 'fixer upper' in Emerald Hills (above Redwood City) with plans of buying an acreage in Mendocino and living off the land. Responded to major career offer and moved to Florida in '79, leaving behind husband, house, goats and chickens.
The new company was purchased by American Airlines in '80. Married co-worker and had a son in '81. Moved to corporate headquarters in Ft. Worth in '83 and had a daughter in '84. Continued career as systems analyst with American Airlines/Sabre until (early) retirement at the end of 1998. Since retirement, I've spent a couple of months in France in a total immersion language school, started a small tour business in Provence and built a website for it. I've also gotten back into singing - my first love in high school - and have been singing in semi-pro...Expand for more
fessional choruses since 2000.
In '05, my husband of 24 years and I got amicably divorced, I sold my house in Texas and moved back to California (Marin county), My son completed his masters in video game development and has just launched his own video game development company after 10 years working for SONY and Electronic Arts. My daughter got her degree in Music, traveled the world and now works as a luxury travel agent in Beverly Hills. I'm thrilled to be back in California and am loving my new (old) house and gorgeous garden. I'm singing with Marin Oratorio and am the leader of 2 chapters of Dining For Women which raises money for projects benefiting women and girls in the 3rd world. I'm also a regional mentor to new chapter leaders in the Western region.
Although I suffered for years from Lyme disease, I am now healthy and living life at full throttle again. I travel a lot
internationally (Bali, S. Africa, Cuba, Cambodia to name a few recent trips),and am known to be "the busiest retired person" people know!
Life is good.
