Chip and I married in 1967, live in Baltimore, MD where he has been in practice as a Medical Oncologist since 1977. We did the whole crazy bit of working and going to school. As my hearing failed considerably, music was no longer an option and I switched to art. By the time our children were born and Chip was finally paid for work, we were nearly thirty. We decided that I would stay home with the children as he built a practice. It was a good decision for our family and I'm so glad to have been able to do that. As they reached high school, I returned to work as a professional artist. Working in Baltimore and showing in NYC for the last twenty some years has been challenging and fun. From our earliest days, I have been a volunteer for numerous causes which has been a great experience. Now I am pursuing life as a Chocolatier and as "Nana."
Raytown's Reunion was so well done! 50 years! We're much too young! It was great to see some familiar faces and the music reunion was a bonus!
Over the years, we have gone to College Reunions, Med school reunions, Housestaff reunions, etc. Each has its own flavor and memories. We have been fortunate to be with wonderful people through our lives and we hope to keep seeing them.
Although work has always been the center of our lives, it has not been everything. We have been pilots since we turned 50~oh, so long ago! Sailing the Chesapeake Bay with the kids was a wonderful time in our lives, but both of these adventures are winding down. Our son works as a software engineer, is marrie...Expand for more
d, has two little boys. They live close to us while our daughter and her three children live in NC. She works for a medical research firm. This time in our lives is such a wonder. I don't think we ever thought about this phase of life. Grandchildren are such a blessing.
My professional life has been a source of travel and experiences that have been a wonderful addition to our lives. Highlights included several shows in Europe and two in China. I had a painting in the US Embassy of Suriname through the Art in Embassies program, a big show at the American Center for Physics in DC and have shown for twenty years in NYC. Now I'm doing family portraits and have some art work for sale at ArtUpClose. Transitioning into other things is quite a journey and it has been both high and low. I am now a graduate of Ecole Chocolat and am a Chocolatier. We'll see where this leads as time permits- Sublime Origin Chocolate, LLC.
Chip and I love our trips to KC. My sisters, Dee Rau (Paseo, '60), Barbara Padget -Steve Padget (Raytown, '70, '69) and Marilyn McFarland (Raytown, '72) all live in the area as do many of my nieces and nephews. It is a source of pride to me that all of the first cousins have finished college, including one at West Point. Most have gone to graduate school and everyone is working. Now there are three grand nieces! The kids are far flung, in NY, Paris, Baltimore, NC, KC, Rolla. We were with our children and grandchildren in KC in 2014 for a wedding at St. Mary's and thoroughly enjoyed KC and family. In many ways the Midwest has never left me and that is something that I value.
