D'Anna's Story
October 2013. I was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, attending Grandview Elementary from 3rd grade through 6th, South Jr. High, and my 10th grade year at the then brand-new Rapid City Central High School from 1978-1979. My family moved right after 10th grade to Riverton, Wyoming, where I finished my last two years of high school and graduated from Riverton High School in 1981. After waiting a year, I left Riverton to attend college with my sister, Deb, at SDSU in Brookings, SD. I attended two years there, earning an AA degree before transferring to the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1984, and graduating with a BA in International Affairs in 1987. I have lived in Colorado since 1984 and love it. In 1989, I married a really great guy, Ron Catterson, and we live in his hometown of Evergreen, Colorado, a small mountain town west of Denver, with our three children, Jocelyn 20, Madeline 17 and Jared 14. y own handmade, cold-processed soaps and bath & body products, and have dabbled in art with large stained glass mosaics. I also collect, buy and sell Native American antiques and collectables, and antique old west books from estate sales. Mostly, I have been a stay-at-home mom.
I still have tons of family in Rapid and the Black Hills area and have visited every year since leaving in 1979. We've enjoyed playing tourist there with our kids. They grew up loving Story Book Island, Dinosaur Park, and all the tourist traps of the Hills, even fossil hunting on my cousin's ranch near Wasta! I have never returned to Riverton, WY, as I no longer have family there, but will always remember the crazy fun times and the people I met. I still think of them. I am grateful, however, that I had the opportunity to get my life on a better track by going off to college. I hope to return to the Black Hills to retire some day, and joke about having my kids spread my ashes near (not in, though!) Sylvan Lake. Find me on Facebook under D'Anna Catterson.
